has anyone ever tried this?
« on: March 04, 2010, 07:19:04 PM »
this morning while bowling pot games nothing that i had in my bag would stay off the nose.so after loseing money and working WAY TOO HARD the first two games. i noticed my buddy(whose throwing style, speed,PAP and rev rate is pretty much the same as mine)was throwing a Lane #1 G-force solid with great success. and i was like how are you doing this cause i am completely lost out here today.so he grabs his ball and hands it to me and says notice anything different about this ball. i immeaditly notice that the G-force he was throwin was completely drilled for a left hander and hes a right hander. it was just making a smooth very controllable move to the pocket and just desroying the rack. third game he pulls out his furious and hands it to me and says try throwing this ball the whole game. so i said what have i got to lose and procede to run off 12 in a row for a 300. i couldnt believe it. next game i shoot 268 and the last game i shoot 290 for a 858 with his furious drilled for a right hander and i am left handed. i have to say with the miniscule amounts of oil they are putting out around here i am SERIOUSLY considering getting a furious with his layout put on it. normally a furious would be WAY TOO MUCH ball for me drilled correctly for me. my question is there something happening that is causing this mellow reaction or was it just dumb luck. also would any of you even think of trying this. sorry for the long post. thanks.

Depends on PAP, but a very weak drilling could easily look like a lefty layout - e. g. with the pin @ 5.5-6" from PAP under the middle finger (or with a lower track even further on the negative side) and a CG below (with a low pin distance). This is a great control drilling with a VERY mellow hook and breakpoint, just not as rolly as a pin axis setup.

I'd guess that's what you "encountered".

Depending on PAP, a layout can wind up looking it is drilled for someone who throws with the other hand.

You can do that.  I just get weaker balls and go with even weaker layouts I.E. put the pin 1-2" from PAP with the MB near my track area.  I also have a Natural for those occasions.  Another thing to consider, taking hand out of it, "finger dancing"  clearing more of the lane....

I know a lefty that went to a storm open house and was throwing a mutant they had there that had a right hand drill.  He only threw 22 strikes in a row with it.  so i would say it works. i was thinking of getting a ball drilled for a lefty too.

Theres not such thing as "right hand " or "left hand" drilling. its just really far from the PAP

Basically, all the above posts are correct. I have had the same success as you.
I just recently sold a lefty drilled Awesome Finish that I had been using with success, on a dry-lane condition, ....to the lefty that bowls on my team.

He didn''t change a thing, just started bowling with it. I originally bought it from another left-hander, and I never changed the drilling, he had placed on it.
P.S. I have used lefty-drilled balls at tournaments quite a few times.

true to an extent... finger sizes will come into play as well with pitches in some cases..

i had an trauma er with pin above ring, cg and mb below... loved that F'n ball!  even found a jungle green predator on the rack.... took it home resurfaced it and used it for atleast 2yrs with great scores. come to find out the predator WAS drilled for a lefty!  hahaha
