So after 3 years of not bowling, i was asked to bowl in a league. Well i figured since i've moved to a new town and nobody knows me, i'd stay on the low down. Well first week, i averaged 166, and then bowled two more times during the week. just to get back into the groove.
Well i come back tonight, and figured as long as i stayed in the 160's i'd be ok,, Well first game, i tried to bowl bad and kept on striking, it didnt matter were i threw the ball if it was outside of 12, it was basically a strike. I ended up with a 228! second game was alot of the same, but i tossed in a couple opens, but still finished with a 178, third game i had to intentionally miss easy spares and stuff, and finally got a 120, to get a 526!
I laughed cuz, If i would of half-azzed tried, i know i could of gotten an easy 650-700 series, and i havent bowled in 3 yrs!!! Plus, i laugh at how easy the lanes have become, I mean is this what it's come too??? The lanes are so easy that someone who hasnt bowled in 3 yrs, can come out after thier first week of bowling, and no matter how badly they try to bowl, they still bowl good????
I mean, i literally had from 12-5 as my area!!!! and wasnt even trying to bowl well.
I know some people will bash me for sandbagging it, but i look at it this way, i see no point in averaging 200+ anymore, i gave up my hopes for the PBA tour, way back when the exempt tour happend.
Plus I dont think anyone who takes 3 yrs off from bowling should just be able to come back and have one week of bowling in them, and end up shooting 700.
It usta be, if someone took a couple years off, the first year back was a learning season, to get back into things. Now i'm just like ok,,, I could probably average 220+ and not have to try....

KW do you think that maybe he just wants to go out and have fun and not really worry about the score? I know when I was forced to take half a season off due to injury I told myself that I wanted to have fun. WHen I came back I did not care about the score as much as I did about having fun.
I have know plenty of people back home who have took some time off for a few seasons and have picked up a ball and have outscored a number of good bowlers myself included who had been bowling the whole time. I agree the condition MAY have played a role into a decent start. However if you were that good in the first place starting up once again should be pretty easy. As the old saying goes it's just like riding a bike. You have to get back up there and go for it, yeah knock the rust and dust off of everything but once that's done you should be good to go.

Just want to go out and have fun and try to bowl bad??????
I just can't match these two things.
-
I'm with KW. If you purposely tanked to keep your avg. down, then you're putting yourself ahead of the team and I wouldn't want you bowling with me. If you can't have fun while trying your best, who needs you that bad? And to admit to it in a public forum? Puts in his profile- "Hates sandbaggers!" Hey pot, meet kettle...
Spike
-
Check out his profile, he hates sandbaggers. They should have their fingers chopped off, well guess your fingers are in for a treat.

You're right. It has gotten bad. There are people like you in the sport.
What association do you bowl in? I think someones assn. president needs a rule book check.
-
why would someone even write a story like that admit is a bagger.
our oiler is broke at my house I was high last Thursday night with 590
for whole league went home mad I would of love shot 700.
PS manager said parts happen come in for oiler least a better excuse.
why didn't the bagger go practice some.
thats why bowling is down, if a quarterback never made a pass he wouldn't
be playing long.

David Lee,
Rexb's situation is much more typical of conditions for most people. I'm not sure if you got lucky or not. Incompetence regarding running an oil machine is much more prevalent resulting of fubar conditions than in the one you found.

I understand what you mean about having a 200 avg...
Thought I was good but I was wrong because its some real monsters out on some lanes and bowling them head up for 3 games my chances are slim..
Wanted even to go PBA until I saw how hard it really is to qualify

I dont mind giving up pins playing someone who isn't a perfessional but the PBA upset me..
Personally I dont like the fact PBA can bowl in normal every day tournaments even if they are bowling scratch against me. They are able to practice cheaper and get all the balls they want at a discount while I am paying regular price. Balls arent cheap you know...
That isnt a level playing ground...

So many questions, so little time but I'm having fun.
-
yeah i mean dude seriously why would you say that? why wouldn't you want to try your best i wish i could throw that good and your taking your talent for granted if your good be good don't sandbag
-
KWPBA,
I think you miss the point, the 228 game, i had the last 7, and wasnt even trying!!!! I was literally trying to miss the pocket and couldnt cuz the lanes were so easy.
Plus everyone dogs me for sandbagging, yea a few years ago when i was bowling alot of tournaments and 2 or 3 leagues, yes i hated sandbaggers, cuz I always put out 100%. But it got me no where. I'd go to the city and state tournaments and even if i shot 750, i was way behind cuz of guys who sandbag, and get 100pins and shoot 700 to 750.
Plus, i'm in a new city, nobody knows me from my past years, so do they really know if i am bagging it??? no,, I could have just brought a plastic ball and used that for a few weeks.
And Like i say, there is no point in averaging over 200 anymore.
ALso, I dont want sympathy KW, I was just kinda laughing at the fact that I can go 3 yrs without bowling and after 1 week of bowling and two practice sessions, i could of come out and shot 700. And I probably will start doing some tournaments after a few weeks, the house does have a PBA condition tournament this weekend, and I will play in it, to see how many people actually show up for it.
And yes, I came out to just have fun, like someone mention'd. And yes i've done some PBA Regionals, and found out how tough it really is out there. And then I laugh at myself and other House bowlers who avg 220+ , yet alot of those bowlers dont have a clue on how to bowl on different conditions.
I dont think I am bigger than Bowling as a whole or out just for myself and not the team, I just stopped caring about how well i can bowl when i stopped bowling 3 yrs ago. I just dont want to go out and fling the ball around and average 200+ what does that prove to me?? it proves the lanes are EASY!!!
I'd rather average 180-190 on a tough shot than way over 200 on a cake shot.

David Lee,
if you aren't going to try and do your best, whether its 128, 228, or 298, then why bother...you are what's wrong with bowling today. And worse yet, you are proud of it and see nothing wrong with it. Stop bowling now, go play tiddlewinks or something that might challenge you.
And by the way, you are a maroon.

I don't know why you would post this. If you have ever paid attention to this site you should have seen the bashing coming, and with good reason. It was assinine to say you were trying to bowl bad. If I were bowling in the league and saw this on the internet, I would have to report you and hopefully have something happen. Yes the conditions are too easy for some, but at least don't admit that you are trying to mess up. That's just disrepectful to the sport.

I heard that one could kick the ball down the lane with their foot and still average 200 in your house. Why don't you try that and see if you can get to 210.

this wasnt posted to get people to be all uppity bee-oitches, it was just a simple question to ask,, has it gotten this bad, that you can try to bowl bad,,, IE sandbag, but you still end up scoring well.. because the shot is so easy.
Now maybe i should have said,,, damn,, has it gotten this bad, that i can come out from not bowling in 3yrs and have 1 league nite and few games of practice, and shoot 700......

-------Come on.... What replies did you expect. It would appear that you need to grow up a little and realize that not everyone appreciates one who admits that they are purposely not giving their best. Find a sport or PBA experience league that will better challenge your talent.
Clearly you do not care for the responses you have received but it shows a lack of maturity to respond in this manner.

First of all, shooting 228 your first game puts you no where near 700...
Second, You said first game you tried to bowl bad, but couldn't... Which says you had every intent on sandbagging right from the start, not just because it was too easy... but because you're a cheater...
third, its people like you who are making the sport impossible for guys like me, who average 215-230.
So yeah, I will bash you for sandbagging, because that's the easy way to win. The fact that you could come in to establish, and "Lay Low"... shows that you lack integrity. Apparently it doesn't bother you, which doesn't surprise me, because it never seems to bother people who lack it. So at the end of the season, when your team has won and you have won the individual Handicapped awards, have the decency to look the runners up in the eye, and think for one moment, "I took this award from someone who really deserved it." Again, without integrity, I already know that I'm wasting my breath, but I'm making a point. While those awards might not mean anything to you, because you didn't win them fairly, they will mean something to someone who worked hard for them, and did so honestly... Just remember, if you have to sandbag to compete with others in your league it only shows that you lack the same integrity that they do...

See, I like this idea. If you want to beat me, do it scratch, not by me having to give you 50-60 pins a game. If you can't beat me scratch, do what others do and work on your game. Invest in some good equipment, take lessons, get a coach, you know, all the things I've done over the years to become a better player.
I guess I'm PO'ed because we had to give 237 pins worth of handicap PER GAME last night. That's 711 total pins. We got smoked because the guy who averages 174 shot 656. The guy who averages 129 shot 544. The guy who averages 154 shot 598. Don't remember what the other 2 shot, but they were over average as well.

Check it out and add me if you want!
That's exactly what happened with our 4person league last night. For the past few years we've had 3 or 4 of the higher averages in the league and house, and we average around 850-860 as a team. Last night we bowled the new team, and were giving up 235 pins a game and almost lost scratch the first game, everyone was 10-20 pins above average, so its almost impossible to win when we're all averaging 190-220. It takes the fun out of bowling IMO

You had 228 the 1st game, your weren't exactly ripping the lanes up. You weren't even on 700 pace. Get real with yourself and stop acting like a silly cry baby. Go back and take 3 more years off, nobody needs a cry baby sandbagger. Nobody cares about your efforts for the evening.
If you can't give it your best shot, every shot for yourself, and your teammates why the hell are you even bowling?
"i see no point in averaging 200+ anymore"
That nice, whiny cry baby, stop bowling then. WHY ARE YOU BOWLING?
Sack it up and bowl some real bowling tournaments if today's league bowling experience isn't good enough for you. Throwing off and acting like a fool isn't proving that you can bowl, prove you can bowl....

Amen. In addition to this, 228 is not some amazing feat on a house shot, and the PBA has nothing to do with this. They bowl on sport conditions, which are absolutely nothing like what you bowled on, I'm sure.
And 228 is not 700 pace. 233/234 is 700 pace. If you could have shot 650-700 "easily" you would have. Stop kidding yourself and giving yourself kudos.

JohnP,
When I first posted the above reply, I wrote "Sir", but then I checked out White Dot's profile, and clicked on the link titled White Dot (http://"http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a255/luvthatwhitedot/DSC02105-1.jpg"), and thought for sure I'd made a mistake, hence my edited version.
If White Dot is a man, I apologize (to White Dot) for believing that it is a woman, but the link in White Dot's profile is what has led me to believe I was addressing a lady.

JohnP,
Upon further review, it appears that "White Dot" is definitely a lady.
Just checked out her Bowlspace web-page (http://"http://luvthatwhitedot.bowlspace.com/"), and it confirms that my assumption based on her ballreviews profile is correct.
Mistakes happen, right John?

You go out and shoot 526 without even trying... I can guarantee you that most people on here can shoot higher without even trying. If you arent going to bowl to your true ability, why come back to the sport? Let's see how you do when you actually try, if thats too easy find a different league to bowl in or a different center.

Can't believe what I had just read!!!!!!! You my friend, make me sick!!!!!!! You must have a whole lot of money just to blow to go bowl like crap on purpose. I had to quit one of my leagues just because I couldn't afford it. I pay my money every week to bowl as good as I can. Ya, you should be able bowl and have a good time, but I also like to win. Like everone said, you give bowling a bad name. And do you think it's fair to your team?
-
You might think that the game is that easy but guaranteed it will come back to bite you when you want to go out and score and you will not be able too because you spent so much time "trying to be bad". There are some nights and some houses that are just that easy, it never fails that after the whole summer off I always come out first night and bowl well, it just seems I can't do anything wrong after not looking at a bowling ball for 3 to 4 months. I bowled in a new house last weekend that I haven't stepped foot in for 5 years and felt like I threw the ball terrible but shot 667 because I kept adjusting and trying to score, I owed that to everyone aroung me. People like you who don't try and then come out at state or other tournaments and then shoot high score piss me off, I try as hard as I can to maintain my average just so people like you with a 160 average can go to state and shoot 750, that's a bunch of B.S.
-
quote:
Plus I dont think anyone who takes 3 yrs off from bowling should just be able to come back and have one week of bowling in them, and end up shooting 700.
Things haven't changed much in the last 3 years as far as equipment or dead-easy lane conditions. Indeed, things haven't changed much in the last 10 years, so I'm not sure what you were seeing before your 3 year hiatus.
quote:
i gave up my hopes for the PBA tour
Jeff Carter averaged 261+ on a house shot and has had very limited success on tour. It's a house shot. Adult bumper bowling.
The game and sport of bowling are two completely different worlds. Criticizing the game of bowling is like making fun of children because they like candy. What's the point?
