Please explain this statement -
« on: March 30, 2005, 01:43:41 AM »
I have seen the statement "lead the downswing with your ring finger to avoid early turn" in several articles and books.  I guess I am dense or just can't visualize what is being said.  Can someone explain it to me?   Thanks

basically, when you arm is coming down, you want your ring finger to be closer to the pins than your middle finger until your thumb exits the ball.  That doesn't mean that your palm should be facing the outside.  Make a little more sense?  That's the best explanation I can come up with.

If you watch todays top bowlers at the top of there swings the hand is not directly behind the ball, it is inside the arm and the ball is facing the wall. If you maintained this position through the down swing to the ankle the ring finger would be in front in the middle finger. This is leading with the ring finger. Another view would be that the back of the hand is closer to the ankle at the bottom developing an inside armswing.
