Ever pick up an old ball, maybe 5 - 10 yrs old that you had or haven't used in ages and go to league and get a reaction you miss. Your carry becomes tremendous again and people are shaking there heads. Recently I picked up and AMF NightHawk M2, Angle Evolution Reactive and dusted off my Original Nighthawk. I am having so much fun tossing these pieces and scoring well. Averaging 230+ on the HS. Go figure. Old tech still is good. Whats your story? 9

At the start of this season, I dug out a Power Surge, sanded it to 4000 matte and used it on a sport pattern. It already had a pin under drilling, which together with the smooth surface works just fine on a medium oil sport pattern.

Currently throwing some older storm pieces a old Fired Up and an old Spit Fire both balls are an absolute Beast on the House Shot I wish I could find these ball new anyone know where Id buy them in a heartbeat. Very user friendly wow

Been struggling lately, found an old storm eraser in the pro shop it fit me good but the only problem was it was drilled for a full roller. I thought what the heck what have i got to lose.Used it in game 3 of league last thurs.had the first 9. Crazy

Wish the older stuff I had was in 14 pounds but they weren't. So I was out of luck with this.

I've been throwing my D/T Threshold NGS a lot lately, and it's been great. I'm about to pull out my Oracle and see how it works.

Last year, i was in a bit of a slump. After cleaning at home, i happened upon my old Black Widow Pearl and decided to take it to leagues to play with. This is the only ball i have shot 700's with. I've been close with others, but not gotten there. The first 4 weeks i used it last spring were amazing, including another 700 and 3 high 600's. I also used it in a tournament in my local house, and seeded 3rd of 65+ bowlers rolling another 700, and with the match play added in, i shot 2 700's with it on the day, and finished 2nd in the tournament to my 233 average teammate.
I've been told a theory on why balls do this, and it's because the oil in the coverstock that used to bog the reaction down has since migrated further into the ball leaving yourself a fresher surface for a little while.

The only thing I could score with on this summer's sport condition was a C300 Wrath High Flush Pearl that I sanded to 2000. Nothing else would hold the line, and finish hard.

If you check my most recent post in the FS-FT column, I'm actually looking for an older piece. All of my current stuff is reading too soon/too strong on our house shot. The guys I'm seeing really whacking 'em are guys tossing old stuff like the Eraser Blaze, Matrix, Vortex Afterburner, etc. Toward your original point, I've done that in the past as well. I dusted off my original purple pearl X-Caliber after it had sat on the floor for a long time, and I loved the reaction it gave me. As long as it's reactive, you can probably get a reaction and some hit out of it!

I currently have no new pieces in my regular arsenal. I am now using a Brunswick Fury, 2 differently drilled Sonic-X’s, a Shock and Awe and an Ultra-Sonic. Other than the S&A I believe these balls are like 8 years old or so!
Everything we bowl on is dryish, so no need for newer, stronger stuff.

I agree that the old stuff is awesome because it's more simple and versatile. Balls today are too condition specific. I pulled out my Teal Storm. It's the second storm ball ever made. It works great on the medium to medium light house shot. :P

I remember I shot a nice set a few years back with an old black hammer someone gave me.I still use it from time to time.

I dug out my dad's old Sea Wolf at the beginning of the league, and popped a 278 with it in the first game. Currently in line to get it plugged and redrilled, because his span was about a half inch too long. Still worked like a charm!

Some very interesting post. I'm tempted to pull out my Original Black Ninja and see the reaction. It would make a good conversation after league if I did and bowled well..lol

Did it all last year! Was shooting award scores or close to it every week for first two thirds the changed volume of oil at house i bowled and couldnt get anything to work. I was taking at least one or two different relics a week, shot award scores with amf heist, forest green quantum, overseas quantum, black hammer, track revmaster, and hammer big blue solid. Last year

Last night I shot 791 with a SD73 Classic that I have not thrown in 5 years.

Sweet series. I used to have the original SD73 too. I'm looking for another Nighthawk...9

And yet the ball manufacturers keep advertising that the new equipment is so much better than previous years.

Sunday Early Men pulled out the Ninja RPM and had a 730 set. Next up, the original Black Ninja.

That's how it is for me with my Ebonite Puma. I can throw that ball and score on almost any condition. Shot 824 with it couple years ago. If I am struggling at league or tourney I switch to the Puma and problem solved lol. Only problem is there is a crack starting to go around the fingers so may be time to retire it :'(. If anyone has a NIB 15lb Ebonite Puma shoot me a message.

I can pull out my Titan, and still whack with it. Superflex is awesome.
