Have any of you quit bowling with someone because...?
« on: May 20, 2008, 05:02:00 AM »
About 15 years ago I quit bowling with my brother because he just couldn't stand it when people would get brooklyn strikes or go thru the nose and strike.  He thought he was better than he was.  He felt he put 9 out of 10 balls in the pocket and should have struck every time he put it there.  He was caring a 190-195 average at the time.
The straw that broke the camels back was when we were bowling a team that had lots of handicap.  They were getting very very lucky.  They were having a "career night" as a team.  I tried to calm my brother down but the more he watched, the luckier they got(so he thought).  Then he would throw a pocket shot and leave a ringing ten. He did this a few times.  The last time he did it, he came walking back and put his shoulder right in the chest of the biggest guy on their team(guy was standing in walkway between counters in back of bowler area). This guy is 6'6" about 280lb. I thought, oh cr@p here we go.  Luckily for my bro and probably me too, the guy was pretty cool headed. He probably figured the arse whoop'n they were giving our team in bowling was enough.  After that confrontation, I went back and tried talking to my bro to calm him down and then he flew off the handle at me.  That's when I said, enough is enough.  I've never bowled on a team with him since.  His son started bowling with him 5 years later when his son was 12.  His son quit bowling all together after just 2 years bowling with his dad.

Guy like that used to bowl here.  One night, the other team was having "one of those nights" and just hammering us.  Seemed like lots of shots were going brooklyn and carrying.  Then I saw why.

The captain of the other team saw how much it was bothering the guy, so he was telling his team to do it on purpose, if they could.  They were pretty good at it, I must say.

Well, when the guy found out it was being done on purpose and was aimed directly at him, he went NUTS.  Jumped into the middle of the other teams sittee and started raving at the captain of their team.

Captain calmly gets up, confronts the guy, and knocks about 3 teeth out of the guys mouth.  Fight?  No, the loudmouth didn't want anymore.  Furthermore, he ( the loudmouth ) was escorted to the door, told not to ever come back, and that they would ship his stuff to him C.O.D.

Owner then told me HE would pay for the empty spot until we filled it, that is how glad he was to get rid of the guy.

Funny thing is, we won more games and bowled better without the guy, even with only 4 guys and a blind.

I finally quit a team I had been bowling with for about 5 years last season because of "that guy".  I actually changed houses because it was a mens league and I wanted to get as far from him as possible.  Here's the kicker...After 2 weeks this year he quit the team.  If he had any class he would have quit last year and I would have stayed there.  Oh well I am now bowling with 4 guys that I find really nice and no big heads or bad attitudes I was really glad I made the change as hard as it was to make.

I've bowled with that guy.

I think anyone that has bowled leagues for a good number of years has had him on their team at some point, and then gotten rid of them ASAP.

It was no fun and there was no enjoyment when you have the hot head on your team, no matter what he averages.

Having been on both sides of "career night bowling", I always operated under the assumption that when another bowler has their career night, we should just take our lumps and be happy for them.   When it is your turn, just go with the flow and have fun with it.  There is no need for anyone to rub someone's face in it, or to detract from someone else's accomplishments.

IMHO, fifteen years ago, 190-195 bowlers were upper shelf bowlers in the leagues, similar to the 205 - 210 guys in the tougher houses today.

Pop_1 15 years ago 195 was good. Have to remember times change and averages have gone up a lot. I have been in those shoes before of getting mad when the other team gets the "lucky strikes" and I am in the pocket and can't carry. I have also enjoyed the other side a few nights as well. It is frustrating when you think you are just hammerring the pocket and can't trip the 10. I have really learned to enjoy the good times and the bad times you just have to take as a learning curve.

15 years ago, I was in juniors and there were plenty of guys averaging 205-210.  That is what I am basing it off of.  I actually thought the shots I bowled on then were easier than they are now.  It truely was bumper bowling.  But, I could be wrong.

I'd say 25 years ago 195 was good. By 1993, resin was out as well as sanction machine lane oiling technology.

Can't say that I would ever quit because of someone but there is a guy that I would love to cram my fist into his face.

The guy is the "trash talker" guy in our house. Biggest mouth in the world, and we was in a tournament sat with this moron on our lanes and all he did was run his mouth. It didn't bother me too much till the very last game, he crossed the line then. Me and my partner was having a medicore night for us and so we was already in a bad mood.

But the first and second game he was just saying oh that was some lucky shots right there and all this BS which was fine (evne though he and his partner had about 10 brooklyns a piece) I just laughed and went on. Well the third game comes around and he knows now that we don't care about what hes been saying and we were totally killing him and his partner in score so he starts threatning us saying that he was going to whoop our arses and then started calling us gay.

It didn't bother me up until the last few frames of the last game. I guess it was because I had a 300 game going and he was wanting to get under my skin. Well he did. i slipped on my balanced and fouled first shot of the tenth.

I don't know what his deal was and I've never liked him before because of his loudness but he really pushed my buttons. I never got mad infront of him because thats what they want is a reaction, but if he starts with me next time, Im knocking his lights out.

Why I left a team I liked to bowl with on Wednesday for, they didn't want to kick him off the team so I quit. Not only did he not pay when he came, you never knew if he was going to even show up,and always late too.
