Have any of you used your right as team captain
« on: January 27, 2005, 12:54:56 AM »
to remove a bowler fromyour team?  How successful were you and what did it involve.  I was bowling with a lady in 2 leagues who has made it near impossible for me to continue to bowl with her on the team.  Her attacks started with a subtle silent treatment.  I could handle that.  They have progressed to my being verbally assulted, I can't handle that.

The one league, I gave notice and have quit.  The second I have talked to the league coordinator about the situation.  There were vacancies, but unfortunately they have been filled as of last night.  This team was my team.  I have paid in 20 weeks of a 32 week season and feel it is just wrong that I am forced to quit, when she is the problem.  Almost everyone in the league dislikes her and many would love to see her gone.  The league coordinator and deskman agree that it is not right I should have to quit, but they also know what kind of person she is.

The other concern is that if I use my right to remove her from the team. she will not go peacefully and will cause a lot of crap for the league as a whole.

So I would appreciate input from anyone who has removed a bowler from their team.  I'll be talking to the league coordinator again tomorrow and may consider presenting this option to him.

Give her the heave-ho.  Tell her why and that if she causes trouble she is liable to be arrested.  Seriously.  You don't have to put up with crap like that.

Sawbones, she not only knows she is disagreeable, but is proud of it.  She already ran one of the team members off.  He chose to walk away.  It is a 4 person team and the other guy is the type that doesn't take a stand either way.

I did quit the league where I am not the team captain.  I gave verbal and written notice to the team captain, desk, and secretary.

The league I am team captain of, I asked the league coordinator to find me another spot.  I wasn't going to go the route of showing her the door to try to keep peace in the league.  Since there is no other opening, I do not feel I should have to be the one to walk.  I have been a member of the league since it started 3 years ago. I, thinking she was a friend, brought her, her daughter and grand daughter in last winter.  The granddaughter went and found her own team last summer and I brought in a guy from  my Tuesday league.  The daughter got her own team for this winter, and has since dropped the league.  I got a friend from the league who lost his team to fill her spot.

Getting the police involved is not something I'd want to persue.  I am friends with her daughter and son-in-law and don't want to lose that.

As I recall from a similar scenario, the captain can take a vote of the team and remove someone.  The removal does not, however, result in the forfeiture of prize fund earned to the point of removal.  Bowler can fill a spot on another team in the league if a vacancy exists...

I also recall (I haven't looked at the rules in a while though) that the league can hold a meeting and bounce someone from the league if it can be shown that a violation of league rules has occurred.  The verbal abuse may be an avenue towards that end of the process.

In my opinion, I think it may be easier for you to ask the league to expel the woman.  Leagues are invitational in nature, which is why there are still separate men's and women's leagues.  If the Board of Directors (all the Team Captains and Officers) wish to dismiss the player, they may, under rules 103b and 115a.  This gets the heat off of you.

Also, all leagues should really have conduct committees to deal with these things.

Thanks for all the replies.

Toadbam, I am not certain the league would expel anyone.  It is an interesting make up in the league and most are only concerned with their immediate team, kind of hid your head in the sand types.

Sawbones, there is a part of me that says fight, especially after her antics tonight.  There's the other part of me that wants to take the high road and keep peace in the league.  I did talk to the only other member of the team, and he won't get in  the middle, but will support my decision as long as the league coordinator also supports it.   We'll see which wins out, and I'll let you all know.

Rags, with your behemoth stature, would you like to come on down to CA and physically give her the heave-ho?

Shocker, If I end up walking the owner will definitely hear about it from me.

I talked to the league coordinator who happens to also be my coach.  I told him I was not quitting the league and since there is no team with a vacancy at this time, I would remain on my own team. I also advised him he might want to let her know and leave it up to her if she walks or stays.  I made the promise I would not say anything to her and if she chose to make snide remarks, etc towards me, I would inform him and let him take care of it.

My decision is based on the fight in me, I took the flight in the other league and refuse to in this.  I talked to the only other remaining member of the team and he won't take a stand, but will support my decision.

Thought I'd let you know my decision and thanks for all the input.  I think I can last until mid May.

TP,

Sounds like you've got it under control, but here is how I see it anyway.  If you are the captain of the team, then the team, in a sense, "belongs" to you.

If you are the one who procured a spot for the team, then it is yours.  All the members of your team were INVITED to participate, presumably by you.  If you can invite them to play, you may also invite them to LEAVE, especially if she is being a bit*h all the time!

I am not the team captain, but my captain has had several members removed from the team, nicely if possible, but if not, he has done whatever it took to get them gone.  He now has respect from other teams for not putting up with the crap, and also has a good team that enjoys bowling together.

Bottom line?  KICK THE BIT*H IN HER BVTT! You'll not only be happier, but I am betting the league will be also!
