Have you ever bought......
« on: October 10, 2004, 02:54:25 PM »
a ball that was deemed a second or blem?  What was your experience with this ball?    Would you ever consider buying another that had the same qualities?  I ask because I have a chance to buy a ball that is a second, but I'm not sure if I should or not.  Give me your feedback.  Thanks!

Depends what type of blem. I know color blems make no difference, and that other blems can be used also, its just more difficult to find a good drill pattern, and weight distribution.

What's the nature of the blem? Color? Surface? Mis-marked? Long pin outs?

I have no idea.  I'll look into it.

ya i have used a color blem, 6 inch pin blem, high top weight blem. The color blem was fine, the 6 inch pin i put the pin way above my bridge and cg in my palm, this was a pretty snappy ball, and the high top weight one i just drilled the fingers deeper and put a large weighthole in, no biggie. I think all three of these blems are ok as long as you dont get too long of a pin or too high of a top weight. I'm not sure on other types of blems though.

A couple of years ago we sold probably 15 cases or more of Columbia Wicked blems.  Most of them had white markings instead of pink.  There were a few short pins.  We let everybody interested know what the differences were about each ball as we sold them.  No problems reported from anyone that bought one.  Most people were very satisfied with the balls and at $40 less than a non blem they were very very happy.  We stay away from weird weights and surface damage blems those are bad. One year we bought a bunch of balls that the coloring didn't go all the way around the ball so the bottom was solid color.  People bought them like hot cakes because they looked cool going down the lane.  It's getting harder for us to find good quality blems.  Most people that are casual mixed league bowlers and that's all blems are fine.  If you are serious stay away from them.
