I know we had this discussion before, but.....

honestly, is it the "core design" or the "cover"?  In my other thread concerning drillers, surely there's more to a ball than simply punching 3 holes in it.  How many of you use the same layout (pin location, balance, etc.) for nearly every ball you own?  Because of the success with one, are you sold on the theory that it'll work for all?  How many of you have "gone against" what the manufacturer suggests (i.e. drilling sheet) and learned something different (positive reaction)?

Huge difference in core designs among balls, yet are you that 'in tune' with your game to notice which core works best for you?  or is it the 'cover'?

Jim Wonders from Visionary told me this last year or maybe year before.  He took all his Visionary equipment and used the same layout on all of them.  Then, he switched balls to match up to lane condition.  I have been tempted to take my fav drill and drill 3 Gargoyles Granite, Violet and Blue Slate and see how I match up.  I think it wuld be interesting as the Gargoyle core is one of my favs.

The only time I'd use an exotic layout would be for extremes.

I currently have a ton of Track equipment, and every ball with one exception is laid out exactly the same. I have 2 of all the equipment I have, as I have changed the cover on one. For example, hit a scotch brite on an Animal, some polish on a Rule, etc. Then, I just match ball to lane condition and away we go. Granted, diff tops and statics and where the MB ends up will be variables, but for the most part this works very well for me and a few of my friends as well.

Thanks!
