Have you ever finished last in a tournament?

If so, what happened? Did you not bowl well? Or the competition too strong? ... ?

I don't ever recall being dead last, but I know I've been darn close on more occasions than I'd care to remember. As for why, it's always been due to very poor bowling on my part. When I actually perform up to potential, I usually do OK.

Yep,
A couple of times.

Nationals in Billings.
I probably finished last or near last in team event.
Mainly due to the fact I bowled team event alone.
LOL
Another time at a Regional towards the end of my professional career I decided to practice my last 4 games because I was nowhere near the cut line.
I actually improved my standings by a couple of spots and never shot at a spare those last few games because I was working on my lane management.
This helped me the next weekend at the Resident Pro where I finished 1 spot out of matchplay behind Mr. Jeff Carter.
LOL

Probably, although I didn't bother to check the standings.  It was a PTQ qualifier, most people were doing quite well, while I racked up 16 wide open splits over 5 games.  They were only handing out spots to the top 3, so the way I was bowling, I never looked at the sheets.

Definitely have, wasn't prepared and let myself get down on myself and just missed spares like mad and did horrible. I keep the results printed out in my bowling bag as a reminder, it keeps me hungry and leaves me in a situation where I know try to make the best of everything I can now.

The team I was supposed to be on fell apart in late Jan. of that year.
So I hooked up with another group of bowlers.
The team spot was already paid for.
Figured I'd hook up with a team off of the sub list.
When I got there no one needed a sub at the time.
So I decided to bowl team event alone for the all events score plus bracket potential.
When I bowled the BJ a team from my squad said they had just picked up a guy.
This guy gave them 470.
I shot like 590 would have put them in the top 25.
LOL
Also 2 teams tried to get me to bowl with them as I was warming up.
I told them NO I was commited to bowling by myself.
We finished 1 hr ahead of the rest of the squad and had plenty of bar time at the convention center.
Also got warned about bowling TOO FAST.
LOL
Because the group next to us were waiting 3 lanes.

Twice, both of them Junior Gold qualifiers last year. I just thought I was better than I am. 8 games, I had last locked up by around 80 pins each time.

Was a fun experience though.

I have finished last on many occasions. Most of the time the reason why I finished dead last was because I was either in a slump or couldnt handle the level of competition. Most of my slump events were planned 3-4 months in advance and since none of us bowlers knows when that will happen...well just bad timing mainly. All I wanted to do at the tournament was just find some sort of line that got me in the area of the 1-3 pocket and just convert spares all day long. Take the strikes when they came. That was the plan anyway, ended up having 4-5 splits per game in a 8 game marathon.... talk about a LONG day!!

Now 2 other events I was bowling quite well at the time, got to the tournament, checked in and my equipment was checked and considered legal. Start practice, 1st 5 shots in the right gutter.....Wasnt told the shot was a sport shot but i didnt complain, just moved right and played around the 3 board and softened my speed. Couldnt really carry for crap. Just played the lanes and tried to make spares. Finished at the bottom of the sheet at the end of the day but I was at least a mark from the guy 1 spot above me.

I took it all as a learning experience.

I finished 72nd out of 77 entries at a tournament last season after winning a tournament the day before.

That was a short lived high after the win. Bowling is a cruel mistress
