Brunswick Maxx Zone and Lane1 Agent Orange or you could just take a Burgandy Scotchbrite pad (320grit) to any ball you want and WALA.

That is a great quantum, too bad its not 15. Funny thing is everybody I saw with one had it polished.

None come dull with the lines like that because of the abralon pads and other methods for resurfacing that rotates the ball while being sanded.

That ball is probably 600 grit or so. Columbia has a lot of dull equipment. But none will have those lines from one direction sanding, and will probably not be that dull. But anything you buy from your local shop can be dulled more if needed. They will usually do it for free if you ask them when buying the ball to make a sell.

Like mentioned earlier many people don't face the lane conditions that require a ball to be that dull. Most only require some light surface sanding. It would be helpful for a low rev player on heavy oil but for many people it's going to hook early and die.

They're are dozen's of dull balls on the market now, everyone that Jeff listed is dull but no one sells a ball at 320 from the factory anymore.

this is the type of "dull" i am speaking of. these coverstocks that are being mentioned and used today are hybrids.experimental stuff. this type of dullness is what i fail to see anymore. awesome ball.

Well the reason could be the newer cores combined w/the newer coverstocks that they don't need to be as dull out of box.  Technology has a way of doing that.

This is your real answer, splitcity. Coverstocks today are so aggressive, there is rarely the need for such rough surfaces on most balls. If a bowler's ball speed is so high that he needs lower grit levels like 600 and 400 grit, it takes seconds on a spinner to do that to any ball.

For reference sake, there HAD been a standard a few years back of talking about dull balls meant grit levels of 400 to about 800 or 1000 grit US.
When we talked about matte finish balls, we were talking about balls whose surface was in the 1000 grit US (2000 grit Abralon) or finer (4000 grit Abralon).

We seem to have dropped those names as technical references. In English dictionaries, dull and matte have the same meaning, in general, in non-bowling, simple language terms, meaning a surface that doesn't reflect light.

What would be wrong in taking a solid reactive ball and sanding it to the finish you want?  This seems like the easiest solution.

I agree with Monster Pike and Charlest.  I'd say this is the main cause of not having to "dull" balls OOB anymore.  Please also keep in mind, manufacturers have to think in numbers.  On an average, a majority of bowlers cannot utilize this much cover.

A couple of older balls do come to mind that you may like if you can still find them.  The AMB Centaur particle (320?) and the Brunswick Mammoth.  I do still have a NIB Mammoth if you're interested, just remembered that.

Jeez, we just gave some examples. We didn't list every ball currently available. We were just trying to explain to splitcity the situation. You also forgot the Street Rod Solid.

Just use resurrection and any ball has a matte/sheen compound finish.

Balls that dull were made like that back then because covers were not as pourous. Now that they are we don't need that much grit to get traction. On a side note though, I run both my sanded Cell and Pluto around 800.
