Having an easier time on PBA patterns
« on: January 03, 2009, 12:24:22 PM »
Lately I have been having an easier time bowling on PBA patterns than a THS. I don't know what it is. Everytime I have had a chance to bowl on PBA patterns I have had an easier time carrying and making transition. I get on a THS and the transition just kills me. I have been averaging 225 first game on THS and slowly my average goes down to 195 third game. It is just that transition is much more difficult on a house shot in my opinion.

The biggest thing I notice is the way I throw the ball my ball usually responds to friction pretty well. So the over/under created by a house shot kills me. I try to move my breakpoint inside and I can't get a consistent reaction. On a PBA shot I can just chase the head oil a board or two at a time and the breakpoint won't disappear as it does on a house shot for me. I haven't been able to bowl in a PBA Experience league this season, but I when I have had a chance to bowl on them I have only not bowled a 600 like 2 out of 10 times (and a 730 on scorpion, which is higher than anything I have bowled on a house shot). Where I am only averaging 205 on a house shot.

Any ideas why I have just as easy of a time on PBA patterns? Something I am missing on a THS? It just gets frustrating when I can execute the shots I want to on a PBA pattern and can't on what is supposed to be easier.

I have been throwing a Jazz on a THS during transition and still find the transition difficult. I thought that too and just can't seem to find that in between where I have a good reaction when I move left, like I get on the PBA patterns. Move right and I can't keep it right of the head pin.

Just a Thought for the THS. I know its tough to move right with the transition, but if you are good enough to adjust speed and hand position and still make quality shots, you can move right, get the speed up a little, and take a little hand out to smooth the breakpoint? Just a thought, A lot of times when I am fighting the transition, Right with speed seems to work well at taking the over/under out of play.

Well I could try taking hand out of it, but i generally am throwing the ball as hard as I can on a THS. I guess lowering rev and controlling it would be something to practice.

i dunno about PBA pattern transition

but when we bowl a team with 2 or more plastic straightballers end of the second game the oil just pushes around like crazy and over under is rediculous. i hate it.

I tend to throw about the same on THS and PBA patterns. I find the THS homes you into the pocket more or less however the PBA pattern you dont get near the over/under and it forces you to be consistant.
