I can't really comment on YOU personally, but I can give you some experiences I've had with similar problems.
On the PBAx leagues and the tournaments I've done with sport/PBA patterns, I sometimes struggle getting started quickly. When I find an over/under problem, I tend to go with a ball that's a little stronger than what I am using. For example, my strong pearl ball is a bit squirty down lane and very speed sensitive, I'll go with a strong solid ball to help smooth everything out. It helps me blend the back of the pattern more so the move is less dramatic and more controlled. I usually always have a solid ball at 2000 Abralon.
Once the ball starts to get worn in and define itself a bit more, that's when I can go back to the original game plan and take it from there. But that first 10 mins of practice and next game or two, the pattern is almost always in constant transition from people pushing the oil all over. But once things calm down, the pattern starts to define itself a bit better and I can use stuff that is a bit stronger at end of the pattern.
So perhaps you can try squaring up with a solid ball with some surface? Or even a pearl with some surface.
Hopefully this helps a little, lol
