How do YOU play this shot? ... part 2
« on: June 23, 2004, 09:43:18 AM »
On a shot where the heads and midlanes from the 1 board to the 40 board are dry and the backends are even more dry.

Do you use Plastic like a Lane #1 XXXL and where do you play on the lanes?

Or do you use something like like a weak pearl like a Grren/Purple Pearl POWER GROOVE polished to a high gloss and swing from like 4th or 5th arrow? If so how far do you get it out at the breakpoint?

It's been very hard to get any push through the heads on this shot... even with my Pure Hammer too!!! And even when I did get it to push long enough, it didn't have any kind of recovery even on the scorched backend shot!

I've got about 40 degrees of Axis Rotation, so do I need to change my release to get the ball to push farther and then recover?

What would you do?

Most likely, I'd throw my Monster Slay/R, swinging from 40 to about 5, lofting it over the burnt heads. (i have a problem with loft ne wayz)

I'd probably use the XXXL, seeing if I could loft the ball another 3-4 feet out on the lane and launch from the 6th arrow out to 10 board and back. I used to face this shot when I bowled in college at practice as the local house where we held practice never believed in oil and the backs would fly...so we never got to use urethane or resin, we had to bowl with plastic.

Ric,

Kid 25 and King both have good points.  Lofting is a good way to help get the ball through, or in this case, over the heads.  However, I personally have learned that adding tilt to the ball helps give the ball more length.  HOWEVER, the Power Groove is probably too much ball.  I used to own one and it HATED the dry.  NOW.....if you had the Urethane Groove, it would match up better than the Power Groove.  Obviously I can't see just how burnt these lanes are.  But, judging from your words, you could go with a urethane ball like the Groove or Slate Blue Gargoyle, or go with something like the XXXL.  With my rev rate, I am sure I would have to play in the neighborhood of 20 at the arrows with a breakpoint of 5-7 at 40 feet (hopefully I could get in down that far).

i would probobly try playing them straighter.  Covering all these boards is only good if you have a big enough break point.  I would try using something weak obviously, but maybe let it roll out some.  If you can get it into a heavy roll you'll strike more than you think.
