Hello everyone.

I hate to sound like this, but i gotta get it off my chest cos its hurting me inside.

I had a really rough time last Thursday in the 4 man & cos i was low man, i'm dropped for tomorrow night because low man drops out the week after. I only got a 475 series. But there were people who are excellent bowlers, but due to awful lane conditions (i.e. carrydown & stupid oiling machine) they struggled too. It wasn't just me. Even the guy who shot a 300 the week before only had 270 over 2 games.

It has knocked me back, but it might make me a better bowler in the future, cos i know how bad it feels. I'm determined for it to never happen again.

I know its only one league out of the other 2 i play each week (& other 2 that i play as sub) but this league is possibly the best at my house. Its the league to be in.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

Our lane man apparently became testy after I averaged 237 for the first 2 weeks of league.  Either he changed something orthe machine is having issues; I haven't shot 600 for the last 3 weeks.  Last week I had 530-something.  The previous week I had 540-something.

I feel your pain.

I feel ya man.  Ive shot 675+ for the first 4 weeks of bowling.  Come in last weekend(its a fun league as im just getting back into bowling again) & i see a YOUNG guy running the oil machine, he wasnt over 18ish.  He had NO idea what he was doing at all, he skipped a lane on accident, then the manager told him & he went back.  He never refilled the machine with oil(the normal guy does it every 6-8 lanes.

Apparently he either set up the machine wrong, or they completely changed the shot.  For the first time i REALLY struggled(didnt help that we had a guy that was high on pain killers & doing shots all night on our pair).  I ended up shooting 540ish, it was pathetic.  So dont feel too bad, i think its happened to all of us.

215 the first three weeks in one league. 212 in another. Maintaining 212 in one league but shot a 423 last week and a 425 tonight on the other. I'm so proud of myself!!!!

Well guys, i put all this behind me, cos on Monday i shot at 621 & last night i shot a 613 (& thats with a 169 in the middle game)

Roll on the next Thursday league night, i'm ready for ya!!

I've now got a 191 average in my Wednesday night league, courtesy of a 671 and 682 (both high for me) in the last few weeks.  I don't think I'm a 190-average bowler, and I, too, am worried that it'll only hurt my team.

But I'm trying my darndest to make sure it doesn't.  We've all come in hot, setting what we and our teammates think is an unmaintainable average.  But it took me averaging 170 in a summer league (when I was in the mid-150s the previous winter) and striving to maintain it that kept me there last year.  And if this forces me to increase my average another 10-15 pins to keep from letting my team down, then I hope I can do it.  I sure am gonna try.  

We may improve a little over time, a couple of pins each year until we level off.  Sometimes, though, you can get a big jolt of motivation by doing something you didn't expect.
