Win a PBA Title and not be Exempt?
« on: March 03, 2004, 12:23:00 PM »
Ok, i was just reading the article on the PBA web page on the Bubble boys2.  I did also read the first bubble boys article too.

Now the thing i didnt realize untill i read the last article was that even though Norm Duke won a title, if he doesnt finish in the top 50, he wont be exempt for next yr.  And the same could go for Brian Himmler too.

Whats up with that?

I mean say Joe PBA is bowling every stop and is like somewhere around 75th in points yet, he goes out and wins the MAsters or, the US OPEN, or the PBA championship, now does the same go for him if he fails to be in the top 50 in points.

Because those tournaments allow you to be exempt for muti-yrs.

Now you can say well Norm Duke or Himmler will get a Exemption from the commisioner for every stop or something.  But it might not happen that way.

Or take for instance, like Norm Duke, he won a tournament right off the bat, then had a couple injuries, well what if one of those injuries would have side-lined him for the whole season?

Is that fair to him?

I am just wondering what your opinion on this subject is?  unless i totally misread the article saying that Duke and Himmler wouldnt be EXEMPT if they didnt finish in the TOP 50

Chris Barnes won in Japan last fall- it didn't apply toward exempt status, but fortunately he's clinched a spot for next year due to being in the top ten in points (all those balks and "chokes" on the tube help a lot)

Do you realize how much he messes up other people when he does this during qualifying? He messes up the flow on his pair, and the people who are on the pair to the left and right of him because of the Double Jump rules. I'd hate to be near him when I am bowling because of his "Barney Balks"- although I think he's one of the best players to put on a pair of bowling shoes.
