overly picky about my slide
« on: February 18, 2010, 06:35:14 AM »
I used to have a really really long slide and very early timing.. released while still sliding.. I have recently shortened my slide and fixed my timing issue.. after the fix is when this problem started.

I have noticed that if my footing isn't completely perfect it completely throws my game off. I don't see other people complaining or having this problem. Seems they just adapt or just don't notice it.  I have interchangeable shoes but most of the time the changes between soles are just too drastic.  I'm talking minute amounts of slide or stickyness. I actually have all 3 of the different H5 dexter heels for this. Last night it actuall worked out where the tridex was a tad slicker than the flat and it helped me out a ton.

Having this problem is such a pain that I thought about going to a very minimal slide to no slide at all.  I tried it a couple of times and am not sure if I can pull it off. I think it will take a big re-vamp to my game.. and not to mention the potential knee damage..

Any suggestions or tips

Also....on the slide issue..

I'm picky too and believe I have a large copy of a check at my house from adjusting my slide just before the semifinals of a nice cash tourney started.

Stronger stopping heel, more hook than in practice!

I go even farther in my pickiness.  Forward/backward with my brush on number 10 sole makes it an 11.  Side to side in my mind makes it a 9!

Forward back on my 8 sole makes it a 9.  Side to side on that same sole makes it act like a 7!

It seems to really let one dial in!

Hope that is as helpful for you as it has been for me!

I practice this morning and tried the directional brushing and did notice a difference.. I went sideways on the red leather heel and it made it so I was able to use it without falling on my arse..

LOL... Glad it worked for you. The wire brush it a great tool to have with you for the heel/sole all the time.

i gave up on dexter bowling shoes as i could never find just the right amount of slide.

Gregg: If you can't find the right slide with all the different combinations of heels/soles Dexter has to offer, then there is something mechanically strange about your approach. I'm very sensitive to approaches, and I've yet to find a surface I couldn't quickly adjust my Dexters to.

i''m not sure about the mechanically strange part but i wore dexters for years and could never quite find just the right slide. this coupled with dexters pathetic customer service i encountered sent me to dynorooz/3g and i haven''t looked back.

side note *

from what i''ve seen part of the poor sliding issue may be that most bowling centers spend very time/effort in cleaning and dusting the approaches.

I think part of it is that it takes the dexter H5 heel a while to wear in.. and I wasn't willing to have a bunch of bad nights of bowling while it did wear in..
and the funny thing .. the "wear in" seems like it is just getting the sole a little dirty..
I made a mistake of cleaning of my H5 heel one night and back came the stick and grabbing..
