Help!!
« on: April 21, 2005, 05:41:42 PM »
i've got a very high track. high enough where i most of the time clip the edge of the thumb and mid. finger with the first one or two rings of flare. i'm curious if there's anything i can do to lower that a little bit? i've tried working with different releases for a year and a half and that's not solving anything. sarge easter grip lower my track? just desperate i guess. my pap is 5 1/8 right and 7/8 up...i need help lol.

MFortney,

I have a high track also, not as high as yours, but it used to be. I would also clip the thumb hole.  But I pose to you this question, why do you wanna change you track??  That is not always the answer, people may post things that you can do as far as your release but I will not.  I tried to lower my track and when I did I started spinning the ball(not a great thing for me), but as I progressed in the game it gradually lowered.  How are your balls drilled up?  If you are just clipping the thumb by a little, I would go with drills that have the pin no lower than an imaginary line from your ring finger to your PAP.  That should help some.

all of my stuff is drilled with the pin 1/2" or more over the fingers, if i drill them with the pin any lower, i go over the thumb a lot more. the main reason i want to change that is because i'd like to experiment more with different drill patters. the only thing i can really do is drill stuff to go long it seems like. i'm happy with my scores, i average about 210, but i want to make sure that i can't go any higher. name of the game right? lol. my thumb pitches are 1/4" right and 1/4" back...down away from my palm i think.

anyone else? thinking of changing the pitich in my ring finger to being...away from the palm...maybe even 1/4, and leaving the ring toward palm, what you think?

Personally my Sling Blade tracks over the thumb while my The Deal does not (usually.)
Here's what I tried when I drilled them:

The Blade has pitches of 3/16ths right and 3/16ths reverse.  For the Deal I increased the right pitch to try to keep my hand behind the ball a little longer.
If you decide to increase the side pitch just remember that for every 1/8th you increase the side you have to decrease the reverse 1/16th.

Last Ball: Sling Blade
Current Ball: The Deal

he basically thinks...if it's not broken don't fix it, not very good advice as far as i'm concerned. tells me that i'm as good right now as i'll ever be. and like i said, i'm happy with my score, but when someone tells me i can't do something, it motivates me a lot. i don't just want to score well, i want to do it the right way. and i want to be able to drill a ball other than pin above the fingers. i want to score well the right way.

MFortney -- I would feel more confident about making a recommendation if I could analyze your hand in person.  Assuming your thumb pitches are what your hand needs, I would suggest adding a little more right pitch - to 3/8 (you are right handed?).  Right pitch beyond what your hand requires will force you to turn the ball to get out of the thumb clean.  But if it starts to hurt your thumb go back.  --  JohnP

thanks for the advice. pitches in the fingers should stay normal then? both 1/4 under? i'm definitly going to try that with my thumb, but would changing the finger pitches help any?
