Fill an Arsenal Gap
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:54:08 PM »
I'm looking for some recommendations in my lineup.  The shot where I'm bowling has been skimpy on the oil and the wood lanes aren't helping.  I'm looking to fill the gap under the Ultra Zone/Nomad Solid.  I don't have a lot of stats for my personal game.  Roughly 350 revs, medium tilt, 16-17 mph.  I've been forced to play through the middle, but would like something that will let me pipe it up the outside more - as that's where the carry has been.

* 2nd Dimension pin up (been starting with this, but it's not a good fit)
* Nomad Solid pin up/Ultra Zone - I get a similar reaction
* Plastic

I'm going to replace my plastic likely with a Visionary Ogre Urethan to double up for burnt/spares.  I did not match at all with a Nomad Pearl or Emerald Vibe.  Looking for weaker, but more of an arc reaction.

What fits between Ultra Zone and some Urethane with that type of reaction?

I think you should look at the Avalanche Pearl.  However, chances are you may not be able to play your desired line with anything but the Urethane.  Just a thought.

If you like your Nomad I would say you should look at the Roto Mars. I finally have mine locked in, I went with a length drilling and took it down to 1000 grit. It gets a good read with a continuous move from the outside  and it really gets some good hitting power going up the outside. I think you will really like it.

Second the Avalanche line (the Pearl would fit IMHO well), but I'd also consider a simple Power Groove or a Tropical Storm. These things are pretty strong pieces, great choices for light oil. The Tropical might be flippier, while the PG has more mid lane read.

A Storm Natural (up to date urethane witha core) would IMHO also be a serious option.

Additionally, and it might be "too much", I'd suggest a Twisted Fury Pearl. Recently disacontinued, surely still available and dirty cheap - but same cover as your UZ, but with a low diff. and higher RG core, that should push this ball much cleaner down the lane.

Ill second the choice for the Roto Mars, deffently one of the better dry-medium balls out there, also look at the AMF Hype (both the urethane and reactive), the Global 900 Link and Creature, C300 Freeze, Roto Pluto.

I'd been considering a Mars and a Link on my own.  I've thrown a Creature Pearl that had a length drilling on it and it was close, thus my thoughts of a Link.

I'd like to try a Freeze, but have a feeling it will be too much for what I'd like to do.  They list as medium oil, do they play more to the lighter?
