its dangerous I know...not trying to hurt myself lol, but im been thinking of just using 1 brand of bowling balls. I'm wondering how many of you guys have done/gone this way. What im thinking is going with a smaller company like Lanemasters, Radical, Lane 1, AMF. Something along those lines. I want to use a company that you dont see everday during league. With that all being said which the smaller companies which would be the better bet? Trying to figure out which is the most unique as well as diverse with their releases.

Thoughts?

I am leaning towards radical at this point...i have the times up and it truly is a beast of a ball.

I disagree. A diverse arsenal in my opinion dictates going through ALL companies. Yes, it is a bit harder, but not extremely difficult.

 

I would say I have an advantage because I put a lot of time into testing stuff out to see what it does. But, I would never say if you grab one ball from each line produced by a company that you have a diverse arsenal. Not trying to bash Storm here but think about it...manyof their balls at different performance levels share coverstocks. Now we know cover is the #1 thing that influences reation right? So...how diverse is an all Storm arsenal?

 

Combine that with the fact that certain companies produce specific ball motions better and I would hope you see my point.

With various layouts each ball has a specific motion and place in my bag. It would be impossible to recreate that diversity with any one companies offerings.

If all you want are hook monster bowling balls, then I'm sure one company cannot feed the addiction fast enough.  But to develop a cohesive aresenal for something more than a league, using one company will be the easiest.

I went to all Ebonite a little over a year ago and have been satisfied with all of the Ebonite balls I purchased. However, I recently traded a ball that my pro shop driller wanted for his Storm Nano Solid which he had polished and of which he  hardley used and I have been so happy with this polished Nano that it has become the first ball out of my bag. Even though I was happy with Ebonite, this Nano has changed my thinking about one company only and I am now looking at others including Storm, especially the Brunswick Nexus solid and pearl and if I were to take the polish off the Nano solid, I would probably add the Nano Pearl under it.

A lot depends on what you want to achieve.  If you are a casual bowler and want to keep things simple it may help.  The most important thing is to know your game and if you need a serious arsenal.  The next thing is to assemble the arsenal and know how to use it.  Having the right ball reaction at the right time is the most important thing in serious competition.  I could careless what the ball is labeled as long as it does what I need.  Like anything else sure you will like some balls better than others.  Then again you have to determine if the ball that you are using is right for the condition and the way you throw the ball.  I have an ABS Lane Navi that I drilled up as a dry lane ball.  Anywhere else it's just about worthless.  The big thing is many people spend more of time worrying about numbers, brands and statistics than their game.

Before getting on staff with Lane #1 I pretty much threw 900G and Lane #1. I have owned 100s of bowling balls and those are the two brands I have matched up best with. I do have a Seismic Solaris Blackout stashed away that I never drilled after getting on staff, but haven't thrown any of their other balls either. I have tried the brands like Storm, Roto, Brunswick, Ebo, etc. and other than a handful of balls from Columbia and Ebo, haven't much luck with anything except the 900G coverstocks (which are also on Radical, Lane #1, Seismic, AMF). Unless you're on staff, I don't think limiting yourself to one company is a good bet if you want to really be successful. Sure, all companies come out with a full arsenal for the most part, but there are certain balls that really fit a niche that no other company might be able to produce. That's the reason I originally purchased the blackout, haven't seen a low rg solid with that med-low diff before from any other company.

 

If you do decide to go with one company, I would NOT recommend Radical; atleast not yet. They do make one hell of a ball (I loved the Slant) but all of the Slant balls are very strong for use on med-heavy oil for the most part and the Times Up balls are a lot of performance for the money. With only a handful of balls out so far, I don't think they've really put together a well-rounded arsenal yet.
