HELP
« on: October 11, 2014, 07:01:28 PM »
My bowling center is using this ice oil and I keep leaving ringing seven pins no matter what I do. And its the only ball making it to the pocket.

Sounds like you're having an issue getting the ball to read early enough.  Try a surface adjustment (add a touch more under the assumption you're moving feet and the issue persists).  Also you can try to be a little more aggressive with it at the bottom.  When I ring 10's sometimes it's because I finesse it too much....as long as you are near the pocket you have an issue you can work with.

Now that I'm back home, phew!

They have gone to this ice oil and its a 45 foot pattern.

My Dream On was ringing seven pins, the only way I struck with that ball was when I would get the messenger to cover it. My Ebo Angular One wouldn't turn the corner, neither would my Storm Freakin Fanatic. But to my surprise my AMF Code would and it took out most of my seven pins, and the only reason I keep it my bag is for my league that is on wood lanes. I had to play more direct but I don't care, as long as it carried.

But this ice oil is really, really slick. Most everyone is having trouble with it. Any pointers? Anyone.

message above is spot on
it reading a little late
you do a couple of things:
add more surface to your current ball(s)-like 2000 dull
or, you can try a 500 or 1000+ polish over the top of it.
possibly, a weight could be added if you dont already have one
When we switched to ice oil and my center, i started to drill balls with a slightly different layout and i make sure i roll the ball, to take advantage of the technology in the ball, you must roll it properly.

Seven,
Ice oil is really a new beast. As well as playing slicker, you should see less breakdown of the shot throughout the night.

As far as your 7 pins, I agree with what has been stated. You need the ball to pick up sooner in the midlane, so it gets into a roll sooner. You can try going more direct to accomplish this (which seems to have worked for you), or you need to alter the ball slightly. A little more surface or possibly adding a weight hole to increase the flair, or enlarging an existing weight hole to garner the same effect. The extreme might be that you need a different ball with differnt core numbers to get the ball started rolling sooner.

Sounds like the center didn't adjust the shot to compensate for the characteristics of Ice oil.  No problem changing oil, but you have to understand what that change does to the way your shot plays.  They could probably achieve the same shot as before with less oil, thus saving a little.

It seamed like the only place you could play was outside of the 4th board. If you got in, your ball would never make the turn and finish. It wasn't just me, everyone one was having problems.

You are probably correct, they don't know what to do with it yet, and I hope they figure it out soon.

Ya I finally figured it out, but that first game hurt my pride. I haven't bowled a 163 in a long time. Second game was much better 234, but this is just suppose to be a fun mixed league, not a lot of good bowlers on this league. They are not out to improve themselves by bowling on a harder shot, they are just looking to have a good time.

Doom, have you bowled at this center since they changed to Ice oil? First few times it was like normal, but they just recently changed to ice. Its a hole different ballgame. You should check it out.

I haven't bowled there since summer, but Chuck knows what he's doing. I heard that they actually shortened the pattern there. I did have to play further right there over the summer.

I don't know about that, they told me it was 45 feet.

And Chuck didn't seam happy about it. He is hoping they switch back, I think.
