I have been out of bowling since 2008, and was looking for a little ball help. I current own 4 balls that I have used.
1. Hammer Black widow bite
2. Ebonite Total NV (bridge is busted)
3. Ebonite One
4. Elite Alien
I purchased these ball between 2005-2008ish I think. After I quit bowling the balls were unfortunately stored outside in a shed for 6 years. I took each of these balls down the bowling alley in which i will be bowling on this year for league (I did not take the NV due to it being broken). The Hammer Black Widow bite still has a good reaction, but the One and Alien hook very little. I even tried throwing both balls up the 5 board and they still would not come back very much.
Long story short I am seeking advice on either how to bring these old balls back to life, or buy new equipment. I have been browsing the various ball companies in search of what might be some good equipment.
Here is some information that might help with ball selection.
1. ball speed 17-18 mph (I checked it today by using stop watch calculation)
2. I bowl stroker style.
3. I would say my Rev rate is about average.
4. The oil track on my ball after I throw it is about 1-2 inches left of my middle finger hole.
5. my league average before I quit was about 200-210.
I would be looking for a good benchmark ball and a ball that is a little less aggressive for when the lanes start breaking down

simplest thing you can do is go to the nearest proshop and ask them to de-oil and resurface either the Alien or One. If that helps them come back to life, it will be cheaper than buying a new ball as both could still be good balls.

Ebonite stuff is notorious for shells dying. I would look at adding at least one new ball. Doesn't need to be a top end, so called high performance ball. There a bunch of mid price balls out there that will give you great performance. Do a little research on some of the Storm, Roto, and Hammer mid price stuff. You wont have much more invested in one new ball than in rejuvenating the old Ebonites.

A friend of mine is in a similar situation, away for university a long time, and also has BW Bite and Alien. He had his BW Bite rejuvenated but still hasn't been happy with it. He uses the Alien for spare shots only as it only seems to go straight.
