Handling a league that's out to get you
« on: October 31, 2005, 01:42:36 PM »
We have a situation in our handicap "fun" league.  I say "fun" league, because it is handicap, and we go to Vegas for sweepers at the end of the season, but in my book, any league that pays money based on where you finish in the league may be "fun" but there's a competitive aspect to it as well.  Our team isn't liked too well, mainly because we won last year, and take it more seriously than most in the league.  We are respectful of the other teams, and always are polite at the end of the night, but teams are making it more obvious that they don't care for us. Two weeks ago, the other team was deliberately taking forever to bowl to throw us off of our rhythm (our 4th bowler shot 734 which was sweeter than anything), and this past week, the team currently in 1st was being very loud, and yelling as we bowled the entire night.   I love competition as much as the next bowler, but the questionable, and borderline unsportsmanlike tactics are getting to be a bit much.  We have talked to the secretary about the situation, the week bowling the slow bowling team in particular (we had all night to discuss it with her between their shots), but she has shown little interest in taking any action against them, refusing to go down to our pair and witness the situation for herself.  Guess what I'm getting at is are there any strategies for dealing with this, other than just trying to ignore it, and bowl our game, and has anyone else seen things similar to this in their leagues?

I would suggest one of two things...

1) Ignore it, and get on with bowling dispite their obvious attempts to put you off, and beat them all.

or

2) Quit the league, if you aren't having any "fun" in your "fun" league, then there isn't much point is there? if you do choose to quit, make sure everyone is very clear on the reasons why....

While I agree with ausbowler, especailly his first point, you were complaining to the wrong person.  you shold be talking to the league president not the secretary.  The president is responsible for dealing with issues like this, not the secretary.

If I were you, I'd make a more serious effort to WIN EVERY GAME AND STOMP THESE LOOSERS INTO THE GROUND!  Take their money year after year and make THEM quit!  Why should you quit just because you win?  If they don't like losing to you, let them GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!  MERCY IS FOR THE WEAK! Don't quit the league, that's what they want you to do - and if you quit THEY WIN!  So get out there and serve up some butt-whippins on the lanes, and do it with a smile!

And for the ultimate kick in the nuts -  All the while you are stomping them, innocently look them each in the eye and say "Hey, it's all for fun, right?"
