Removing Inserts and slug?
« on: December 10, 2004, 03:43:51 AM »
Hello-

I have a ball I'm looking to sell. Since whomever buys it won't need my inserts and thumb slug, is there a way to remove them without chewing them all up? They fit nice and last time I was at the pro shop, they weren't free either. Thanks!

Try using something thin and flat (obviously not too wide) that you can break the glue bonds with.  Once the bonds are broken it's pretty easy to get them out.

It takes practice though, not to cut it up.  But if you have good hand-eye coordination it should be no problem.

You might have something better, but i have a really small knife i use (maybe a pencils width).  I find it works pretty well.

I use the nail file of a big nail clipper for the inserts.
Thumb slugs will have to be drilled out or chisel out. Since it cannot be re use, just leave it in.

I use a Sears screw driver about 6-8 inches long with the tip of it approx 3/16-1/4 inch wide.

Or just go to the pro shop.  Most of them have an insert removal tool.  Doesn't ter the grips up.  Thumb slugs cant be reused.

I use an xacto knife, take your time and stay as close to the ball as possible. I've taken out quite a few this way, works great.
