My last lesson with Mike Jasnau at the Lane 81 facility was interesting because of the rev rate discussion, just like this one here.
The CATS showed me with a range of rev rates on my 10 shots. From 385 on the high side down to 324. A pretty wide range. Then, when we sat down and watched video, he clicked through frames of my release shot from the camera behind the approach and we counted revolutions of my ball. (If you have taken these lessons, you know that Mike puts a piece of white tape from the center of your grip over 4 or 5 inches straight over away from the track side of your ball.) He then explained that the CATS system could be misleading for a couple of reasons and that he liked to figure rev rate "manually" like we were doing. He figured my rev rate was more like 285 to 320, depending on how clean my release was and how good my mechanics and leverage were.
I never figured I was anything but a stroker anyway, so it was funny to feel my sense of "rev rate" pride when I saw the CATS figures, then feel the gravity of the truth soon after that. Oh well. I had my moment!
Don't let the numbers fool you into thinking you can't compete if you don't have a 400+ rev rate. I'm pretty darn competitive most of the time and I'm always in with a bunch of guys that can hook the ball way more than I ever could. I just had to learn other ways of tipping them over. And for the most part, I have. Don't give up!
