Question, I know you can't alter the surface of a bowling ball once you throw a ball down the lane for league or tournament, are you able to wipe the oil off with a cleaning solution between shots?

I have actually just had this questions brought up in my league.  One of the guys contacted the USBC and found out:

You can use only cleaner that is USBC sanctioned.  The back of the bottle will say if it is or isn't.

ALSO, you can alter the surface of your ball.  You cannot add surface, but you can take it away (you cannot dull but you can polish).  However, at Nationals you cannot do that and also the league president can make a rule that you can't.

If you are using a "simple green" solution, is that sanctioned by the USBC?

I use about 75% Simple Green cut with about 25% rubbing alcohol. It will allow the ball to dry much faster than straight S.G. for use between shots.
I just dampen my towel with it and fold it over so it doesn't dry out too quickly when not using it..and lay it where nobody will sit on it.

Rule 18 says you cannot alter the surface using abrasives. Some polishes like Storm step 1,2.3 or extra or Rough Buff contain abrasives. Some dont.

I use Zapp-It for cleaning if needed during league play.
