help please?
« on: April 26, 2011, 10:19:09 AM »
Guys, which ball company, in your experience has covers that last longer?  I think there was a topic before on this forum about ball life which guys here in ballreviews rated somewhat based on their experience, but I seem cant find it.  Thank you very much for the help!!

I would say Storm as #1, and followed closely by Brunswick.

I been throwing Ebonite for a long time and haven't had any problems. I hear Storm is pretty decent too.

I have Roto balls with over 200 games on them no exaggeration, and they are still going strong. For my money Roto lasts longer than anything I have ever thrown.

I currently am throwing Ebonite, but historically. I would say Brunswick has the better covers. Some may say Legends/Lanemasters and they may have some of the better covers, I don't know as I don't throw their balls.

I remember that thread. The two companies that were thought to have the longest lasting, most durable covers were Legends/Lanemasters and Visionary.

That being said, nearly every company has equipment that lasts quite a while if maintained properly.

1. Lane Masters
2. Visionary

99 -110 everyone else.

Nothing lasts anymore unless you take care of it, no matter how much you pay.

If you think because you paid $250+ for a ball, that it should last you forever, without your doing anything, you will soon be a very unhappy bowler.

The older Legends & Lanemasters where great balls. Bill Hoffman who was on the Lanemasters Amateur staff. Had a Legends  Masterpiece with over 500 games, when he bowled 300/800 with it at the USBC Nationals a few years ago. The last time I heard that ball had over 1000 games on it. I Have a old Lane 1 Enriched Uranium with over 500 games on it I still use from time to time .It has lost some of its life but on the right condition it still works. With any ball proper maintenance will make it last a long time.  I still use balls that are almost ten years old. Keep them clean and resurface them when needed.

My .02,  hope this helps

Your Lane 1 Enriched Uranium has a Brunswick poured cover on it. Lane 1 had some good balls back when Brunswick used to pour the covers.

@ Brick Guy, I new that. That is one of the reason I do not buy any lane 1 products any more and I now use Brunswick 70% of the time. I have a Diamond Back with about 200 games and still going strong. I did polish my D/B for the house shot what a great ball. on a Sport shot I do adjust the cover for the length. Fyi!

The Activator coverstocks from Brunswick are the best I've seen.  I have Zone Classic with well over 2000 games on it.  Shot a 267 (whiffed a 10 pin)/738 just last night with it.  Also, most of those game came in HS, so i did very little ball maintenance until recently (young and stupid).  Just had it resurfaced for the first time a few weeks ago.

I've used every manufacturer in the past.  With proper maintenance 500-1000 games is not uncommon.  I usually replaced my oiler when performance deterioriated and just moved everything else down a notch.  It's too competitive a market anymore for companies to put out short lived balls.
