HELP spare shooting 3-6-10 combos
« on: May 26, 2004, 11:04:41 PM »
I am a new right-handed bowler in a summer league in an unfamiliar wood house. I have been pretty good at spare shooting at my normal house. Now I cannot make my right side spares (6-10,3-10,3-6-10)to save my life. I missed 7 of these spares last week (difference between the 578 I shot and the 600-something I should have shot if I was more accurate). I am striking awesomely (for me anyway) from inside line but oil is somewhat spotty with extremely dry outside and heavy oil in center. I have tried hooking at pins and killing shot with normal strike ball and a viz-a-ball. I NEED HELP. I chop every single one (in multiple ways). Due to oil in center of lane I never even have brooklyn strikes so if I yank ball it is some combo of 3-6-10. Any suggestions or books that could help me. I don't mind bowling 578 but I had a 188 with 7 strikes which is just disappointing. It feels like wasted potential.

what foot do you start with , right or left (set your start point on the lane) and what is your line or starting point for getting the 10 pin, start from there

Sorry, I have a 5 step with left foot (starting foot) on left most dot on approach (don't know board # equivalent). I try to draw an imaginary line to 10 pin and shoot that line (going between 2nd and 3rd arrow) directly to 10 pin with a flat wrist position. But I am not smart enough to know yet a spare shooting system to move off of this. I assume there is a logical one. I have normally just shot a strike ball and move to left to compensate on these spares involving 3 pin. I imagine that is the wrong way to do it. I should point out that I am shaped like budda so I imagine my siting is skewed by my size/relationship of head to shoulder ratio.

3,6,10.....

move your left foot 4 boards right from your starting point to get the 10 pin and throw your strike ball/release between the 3rd adn 4th arrow........

Move your starting position from the 10 pin spot 4-6 boards left.
Use the third arrow as your target (with plastic) - the same as where you successfully shoot the 10 pin. That should do it.

NOW - the dreaded 3-6-9-10 - if I could tell folks how to insure picking up that one, I'd make a ton... It's an ugly one both with a spare ball and a strike ball.

This is very close to the way I pick up this spare, which I leave way to often.

I must be real careful although, about 1 in 5 tries, I will take the 6 pin out of the middle because of the ball hooking too much.
