Help with ball orientation
« on: February 18, 2016, 09:28:13 PM »
Is there a device out-there that will help get the ball into a forward roll off of your hand rather than spin? I know about all of the gizmos that promote side spin and hook, but most Pros and high average keglers get the ball into an early roll rather than spin.

Focus on keeping your hand behind the ball to promote forward roll.

I totally agree with you, but I have a hard time not topping the ball. I have tried the Ebonite wrist brace, which seems to be the same as the Storm Xtra roll.
I actually have too much hook. Probably due to My ball speed. It's hell to get old, but  the alternative is even worse.

While you really should be it yourself unless, for some physical reason,  you need a wrist device for support, there are some device that will help you get more forward roll, rather than a spin release. I have found that hey are usually the ones that have a support that goes up the back of the finger covering the first part of the fingers that extend from the hand.

Some that I see are
Vise V1 Wrist Support

Robby's Rev I Wrist Support

Ebonite Power Form Wrist Positioner,

Mongoose Lifter Bowling Wrist Support,

Storm Gizmoâ„¢ Wrist Support,

Storm Xtra Roll Wrist Support,

Brunswick PowrKoil Adjustable Bowling Wrist Support,

 Master Power Paw Bowling Support,

These just to show he pictures. Buddies has greats service, wide variety and good prices. Discount Bowler has a smaller variety, but some of the cheapest prices I've seen anywhere and also has great service.

I've described it this way to a few teammates who are starting out and struggle with the same.  Stand up straight and let your bowling arm hang straight down at your side.  Rotate your arm outwards so your palm faces forward, fingers below the thumb.  Somewhere between hanging straight down and palm forward is where your hand should be at release, closer to palm facing forward.  Assuming you have a fingertip drilled ball and your thumb leaves the ball before your fingers, you will get good roll and require minimal effort.

Maybe the coaches are cringing now...but it seems to be a simple straight forward way to visualize a strong position.

I've had much less success when speaking about keeping the hand inside, leading with the ring, etc., etc.

Thank you all for your input. I have the wrist brace by Ebonite, I just never used it.
I will try all of your suggestions. Maybe they will help others who have more spin than roll.
Thanks again.

If you never used a wrist device before, one thing keep in mind. Usually your span is reduced when wearing a device.
