Title: help with guardian and ball returns
Post by: mainzer on January 09, 2009, 03:47:50 AM
I am bowling at a house with over the top returns, Guardian heads and and flying wood backends. My issue is I can't get deep enough with the ball return next to me to keep the ball inside far enough. Any suggestions? I have been used a HFP their last night and a nice look but couldn't capitilize when the lanes transitioned. I have tried breaking my wrist and have had mild sucess with that but nothing great. Last resort is a old Sting Ray C sitting in the basement and I am very close to going and getting it.

You throw 16#?  I have a Gunsmoke Cobra that would probably work on that.

On guardian I've found that lofting the heads is a very effective  way to control your break point.

Sometimes a weak old ball works best. I keep a navy Blue reactive Hammer just for such occasions. Try the Stingray.

I would probably be throwing my XXXL, or going 3 step in front of the ball return, but pulling out an old Stingray is a very good idea.

He can't go infront of the ball returns because they are above ground.

Gary,

I've seen you bowl there.

Actually TAKE your HAND out of the ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then try it!!!!!!!!!

I've seen you try and break your wrist there but at the bottom you still clobber it.

Try spinning it more might work like Schlepe.
OR use more surface and use up the balls energy earlier.

YEAH YEAH! I know I still rip it pretty good at the bottom, I have been working on getting my rev rate down a bit at T&O, But the last few weeks we have bowled they have werid, had a brutal over under one week, ended up using a Primal Rage pin over ring and turning it they way I normally do, the week after nothing stayed right, Dusty used his plastic ball and went inside of third arrow and out 5 or 6 at the break and it left him a stone nine pin.

So, what happens if you use your MoJave inside at T&O?

over under early in the night, I am going to try it again next week though they have been SO much dry the last couple of league nights their, the last game with the MoJave their is usually gold for me as their is enough of hole blowen into the track to just lob it into and watch it bounce.

The first game and a half two games for me their are just a disaster, I can't find anything consistent and dependable week to week, which is why I am asking for suggestions.

The League and the house is hella fun though even though I am bowling terrible I have a ton of fun, I will definitly be back next season for this league and house it is way to much fun to walk away from. Actually this is the most fun I have ever had in league ever even though I am bowling like a bundering novice.

Take older equipment and go straighter.
Let the others push the oil down the lane.
Then switch in game 2.

Then, I'd go with what Mike suggests a weaker type ball with some surface to cut down on the over/under til they transition which is why the MoJave works after transition I'd assume.

I think Mike although a wrongsider used to use an RG Saturn which is the type of ball I'd use on that condition.  Medium ball with lower differential and not a lot of flare.  Tight flare lines.

I bowled in two older houses like T&O.  Waterloo and the old Arcadia in Ft. Atkinson before they tore it down.  Both called for equipment like this.

Good luck!

I used to use a 2in. pin Saturn there.
Before that a Command Zone Arc.
I was still deeper than 95% of the bowlers in that house.

Or grab your MOST hooking ball and roll it out at 50 ft.

This will work there too.

Yep and using older equipment on old wood lanes you stand less of a chance of getting your new stuff beat up.

Well I brought one to my Pro Shop but it had been plugged and drilled about 3 times, and was cracking in a few of the plugs so we tossed it.

Mainzer,

I still see some very high scores and averages in this house, maybe you should ask those high average hacks with the 230 averages whats their secret?

If all else fails, stand on the left lane and loft the overlane ball return

Let's see Josh D. throws a tired out Barb Wire.

Dennis Z. plays the track area with virtually no hand.

Jeff S. has killed that place for years throwing a WOW.
