Help with new ball for fiancee
« on: November 20, 2004, 02:39:46 AM »
My fiancee uses an older 13lb hammer.  The ball works fairly well for her, but she would like a newer ball and would like to get more hook.

She throws the ball slow to medium speed and doesn't get much rotation on the ball at all and the limited rotation she does get isn't necessarily along the natural rotation point of the ball.  At about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way down the lane, her current ball self aligns and starts to rotate properly.  At that point it starts to hook.  In oily conditions, this hook is fairly small.

For her to get more hook, I'm assuming she needs a ball with some sort of agressive weighting to get it rotating properly and something with a fair amount of grip.  I don't know a lot about picking balls, so I am asking for help.

Thanks,
Dave

Ive ignored everyone that is a dumbass..

I never dreamed it would be me, My name for all eternity, Recorded here at this hallowed place Alas, my name, no more my face. "In the line of duty," I hear them say: My family now the price to pay. My folded flag stained with their tears; We only had those few short years. The badge no longer on my chest, I sleep now in eternal rest. My sword I pass to those behind, And pray they keep this thought in mind. I never dreamed it would be me, And with heavy heart and bended knee, I ask for all here from the past: Dear God, let my name be the last.

Wow, did this thread ever get off track.  By the way, my fiancee bowls reasonably well.  She carries about a 165 average.  She is small and just doesn't get a lot of oomph on the ball, either in ball speed or rotation speed.

Does anybody have a recommendation with a detailed explanation of why it would be a good ball.  Again, it can be an expensive ball.  I have no problem spending extra money if it will work better.

columbia detour or alter ego would be my suggestions.  i'm personally not a big fan of ebonite or brunswick, but i don't want to get into an argument about it!!

the detour will get further down the lane and make as strong a move as possible . . . the alter ego might hook earlier, but you may be able to polish it for more length . . . and the colors are pretty cool!!

you are in luck in that your fiancee throws 13 lb equipment.  most ball companies put their best weight blocks and designs in their 13 - 16lb equipment, but can't do that with lighter weight balls.

with a ball that hooks more, she may need a spare ball for corner pins and straight shots.  take that ol' hammer and have it resurfaced and polished!!

What about a ball in the Brunswick Inferno series (performance balls)?  She is far from a beginner and her current ball, while older, was a mid to hign end ball at the time.  I really don't want to go cheap and get her a ball that is a step backwards from what she has today.

When she got her current ball, she stepped up from a 12lb ball to a 13lb ball.  She might be able to go with a 14lb ball today.

If it was a urethane hammer, an inferno would probably be too big of a step up.  I'd go with something from teh BVP/monster line.  If she wants control and arc, go with the bruiser (love that ball), but if she wants some angle you can get her the Punisher.  Hope this helps.

PS- Is it me, or do the trolls actually seem to believe themselves?  Sorry about the post, that really sucks.
