Help with next ball purchase
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:46:36 AM »
Here is what I have now.

Columbia Hyjinx
Columbia Apogee
Rotogrip Nomad Solid

All balls are drilled to go long with a strong backend.  The house I play at normally is medium-dry to medium oil conditions. (I will be bowling in Reno in July)

I am looking to purchase a ball for medium-heavy and heavy oil conditions. I throw about 16mph and have revs 350-375. I consider myself a tweener.

Here are the balls I have considered.  I am looking for an opinion on which way I should go.

Storm Virtual Gravity
Ebonite Mission
Rotogrip Mutant Cell

Thanks for the help

If by Reno, you mean the USBC Open, I''d suggest the Mission, as it''s a more even reacting ball than the other two. All should handle the medium-heavy oil one normally sees in the Team event. The HyJinx and the Apogee "SHOULD" (in theory) handle the drier conditions one usually sees in Singles & Doubles.

I would warn you that sometimes Sgls/Dbls are pretty torn up, oil-wise, and then you want a very even reacting mild ball as opposed to a backending ball, like your two pearls. It all depends on who bowls before you, how they bowl and what balls they use. I''ve seen others and have had myself to play anywhere from the 5th arrow to back outside, around the 1st arrow in Sgls/Dbls (Aka Minors). Where to play is not always that obvious.

On other hand, I''ve seen other people simply move 2 boards with their feet and their target and continue using the same ball they used in the team event. Be prepared for anything. Good Luck.
