Helpful Hint
« on: June 14, 2003, 02:17:35 AM »
Here’s a little tip I learned on another web site.  The guys I get used equipment from has almost identical spans to mine.  Since they all use thumb slugs I simply use the drilling they already have in the ball and just put a new slug in.

Sometimes though, no matter how good the driller is, he doesn’t always hit the exact center of the hole and it leaves an unsitely ring where the old slug was.

Now, when I get a ball in, I take a fine tooth blade from a small sawzall and cut the existing slug into thirds.  Once I’ve cut thru the slug I use a thin screw driver to pop the section loose and then pull it out with needle nose pliers.  Once the first section is out, the others come out real easy.

Now all my driller has to do is throw in a new slug and every thing looks nice.

Very good tip, except for one thing.  I can't find anyone with a hand as big as mine

If I could find someone with my span the thumb hole is not a problem because my thumb hole will eclipes theirs

LOL, at the Hoinke I tried out Nicanor's ball.  My thumb fits his ring finger hole.  Maybe you could start swapping with him.  I think he has a couple of extra balls.
