Title: Here is the question of the day..........
Post by: jac on February 05, 2004, 11:14:49 PM: When you bowl your league or a tournament do you watch
where the other bowlers on your pair are throwing the ball
to get an idea of where to or where not to be throwing the
ball or do you just start out with your normal shot and chase
the breakdown??

This year I have made a effort to read the bowlers as well as
the lanes and I try to stay out of everyone elses track area.
It is not always possible but on the most part there is normally
somewhere inside or outside of everyone that I can find a line.
With a ball change or hand position.
I have found that this has helped me stay ahead of the
transitions. I am just wondering if I am the last one to figure
this out or if it is something that most people don't give any
thought to??

Been trying to do that a little but sometimes even with a deeper line and softer ball, can't get the carry. So, I do tend to go right and stay in the dirt as long as I can (with less hand) because the dirt won't change as much or nearly as fast compared to the inside oil line where everybody else is. I call this my Walter Ray theory because even if I don't hit the ball real well, I'll have angle on my side. Seems to be working alright...just had to develop the feel of "no feel".

Post by: Smash49 on February 06, 2004, 02:57:51 PM: You bet. Lining up off people is part of the game. You can tell a lot about the conditions just by watching. You can tell somethings even when people are not bowling about the shot. I can watch lefthanders even and get some idea about what is happening. Saves time and increases the number of pins. Even the 3 or 4 extra shots I do not need to take helps.

They may be getting there from a deeper line, or playing straighter than I would like, but if both of them are playing the same spot to hook the ball from, that is where I start.

I am usually the only lefty in my league, so I really have to try my normal comfortable line (around second arrow) and then in warm ups I try some shots inside third arrow as well as off first arrow and go from there. Lately my shot in the house has been better from 3rd to 2nd arrow than the first arrow...
