Brunswick Black "smooth" bowling tape( 1 in. pieces)
« on: December 20, 2009, 08:50:41 AM »
Wonder what happened to my last purchase of these tapes. They are "much" thinner unless I use 3 or 4 it's not going to do anything. Also they are so limp it's much harder to apply. Just crap. I compared the labels and they are exactly the same. Only the backing has different logo.....

What other brand has tape similar to the "old style" Brunswick tape? Thanks!

It's unusual that you don't like the tape you have now. Everyone I know has been complaining about the thick black tape they have been getting! It doesn't bend and is hard to apply. As far as needing more, use white underneath with one black on top.

Ebonite makes the black thicker tape. Columbia Pro Grip is thin like you purchased. I bought some out of a machine dispenser in the bowling center I think it was made by Vice and it was thick also.

my wife recently picked me up some brunswick black and also silver colored tape and both of them are very thin..i use 3-4 pieces instead of 1 ,it does stick very well tho.i only use tape on my spare ball ,so it's not really an issue for me .

i know what you mean by the new brunswick tape, it is thin, and worthless.

They use to make thick tape that worked great. The new stuff is GARBAGE, everyone who has got the newer tape has hated it

Go get some Vise tape, it is just what you are looking for.

This is exactly what I mean. My thumb often swells during the third game so I may have to remove a tape( old style). Anyway, they shouldn't have made such a "drastic" change "without notice". Or they should let us have the choice. Why would I use 3-4 tapes when 1 worked perfectly? Believe me: the old ones were "much" easier to apply.

I am still waiting for an answer from Bowlingball.com but I'll try Vice and Ebonite. If they're OK then I'll stock them. Who knows if they'll change too?

Thanks a lot!

For what it's worth, I actually prefer really thin black tape.  It's great for adjusting how snug the sides of my thumbhole are.  Just one super thin piece of Frankentape can drastically alter the feel if I put it on the side of my thumbhole instead of the back.  It's nice to have a variety of tape sizes and thicknesses for different reasons.  Brunswick really should offer both kinds.

Does anyone make black tape that actually removes cleanly? I've had problems with both the Master and Ebonite tapes of not being able to get it out of the ball. I literally have had to use knives and bevel sanders to get them out.

I got tired of the same thing and now I use electrical tape.  For those of you that perfer the thicker black tape, then please consider using the electrical tape.

Valentinos Frankentape.

+1 for electrical tape. Works well for me.
