Fed-Ex? More like FED-UP (rant)
« on: February 22, 2008, 01:22:34 PM »
I like to bowl, and, as such, tend to like to try out some/lots of newish bowling balls.

I have been buying used ones both here and on e-bay and would like to continue to do so, but may be more particular over who I buy from because FED-EX SUCKS!

From now on, before I buy a ball from anyone, I am going to make da*n sure they don't ship by fed-ex.  This is the third time in a month that they have flat out LIED about why my packages have been delayed.

No amount of phone calls or complaints has seemed to make any difference to them.  I was supposed to recieve a package today.  When I arrived home, there was no delivery and when I checked the fed-ex tracking site, it said that a delivery had been attempted, but wasn't able to deliver due to a local weather event.

THE FRICKIN WEATHER HERE TODAY WAS PARTLY CLOUDY!  No rain, no snow, no ANYTHING, except sunshine and some clouds.

Today was friday and fed-ex doesn't deliver on saturday, so now it will be sitting in there cold truck for three days.  THIS IS THE SAME EXACT THING THAT HAPPENED2 WEEKS AGO!!!!  At least it was raining ( LIGHTLY ) that time.

FROM NOW ON, I WILL NOT BUY FROM ANYONE USING FED-EX TO SHIP UNLESS IT IS MY ONLY OPTION.

FEDEX does deliver here, in NJ on Saturdays. I thought they did that everywhere in the US.

I tend not to use them because they abuse bowling balls, even double boxed ones. And I know it's not just the local office near me because it also happens when I ship via FEDEX. Even the double boxed balls wind up with the box all rounded at all the corners and the box barely holding the internal bowling box inside.

So, recently I started using UPS more, even though it's more money and they don't deliver on Saturdays. I know normally there's not much difference between shipping companies, but for single bowling balls, I found the above to be true.

I ship usps for everything. never had any problems with items being broken or anything. the downfall no tracking numbers. only delivery confirmation.

Delivery confirmation is extra, Insurance is extra. and the Priority is more expensive than any other shipper. Many EBayers go cheapp and ship Parcel post which can take up to 4 weeks.

I'll take my chances with UPS, DHL or FEDEX if needs be.

I prefer UPS even though it is a wee bit higher than fed-Ex and quite bit higher then DHL. I have had a problem with Fed-Ex delivering my packages at times to the wrong address.

As for DHL, I have had mostly bad deliverys from them but on occassion I'll get a decent one. I live about 100-120 feet from the road. Example of DHL problems is package left out beside the road, package left in middle of driveway halfway between house and road, package left in front of downspout from gutter and it rained that day, and on another rain day, DHL delivered a $1600 Computer, left it out in the middle of driveway and it was pouring down rain. When I went out to get the mail from mail box by road, there it sat getting soaked. Had I not gone out to get the mail, computer would have been ruined. DHL is way cheaper than UPS and Fed-Ex either one, but with delivery service like that, it isn't worth it.

I stood at my door a couple weeks ago, and watched a Fed-Ex driver huck, my elite black label about 5 feet up to my front porch... I can't stand Fed-Ex. I've lived at my current house for 10 years, and the house is 13 years old.  And still today, Fed-Ex will send me email notices saying I have an invalid address, or that they couldn't find my house....

Just a small addition here... the last ball that was shipped FedEx to me, I found out it was at my front door by checking the tracking number. I was home, they didn't even ring the bell or knock on the door, just left it at the door. It was noon-ish when the ball showed up, but is it THAT hard to ring the doorbell?

for usps i ship priority sometimes and it is not that expensive. i usually use the parcel post if i ship Monday it is usually there by Saturday. never had anyone complain about long time for delivery either.

you've been lucky, believe me. PP has the least limitations and a 28 day delivery parameter. If you do ship PP, be sure to get insurance and Del Conf. Just a VERY STRONG suggestion.

I had them do that a couple of times, when FEDEX ground first started up. The straw that broke the camel's back was whenthey hung a package off the plastic delivery flag of my USPS mail box down by the curb/street. I called FEDEX, talked to a supervisor and gave the h*ll for it. Haven't had a single problem since then with local deliveries. Of course the national service of FEDEX still beats bowling ball boxes to a pulp but that's not the local guy's fault.

Bush,

That was just a word to the wise; I delivered part time for the USPS for 3 years or so. Believe me when I tell you you wouldn't believe what can happen to packages. Insure them if they have any value whatsoever and you won't be sorry.

Yep. Unless you have a previous or current working relationship with your delivery person, ringing the bell can add hours to their work day. They don't get Paid O/T as far as I know.

I tip my regualr UPS delivery guy several times a year because we ask him to put any package on the rear patio out of sight of the street. He is kind enough to do this for us. They do not have to do this at all. They just have to put it in a safe, RELATIVELY protected place. SOme people (UPS, FEDEX, DHL, even USPS) leave it anywhere or literally throw it any way they see fit to cut short their delivery time.

that is the first I have ever heard anyone diss Fedex. Try using UPS, they really suck. They have no ethics or customer service. What you see on the commericals is bulls**t. UPS will not work with you over the phone.

I will weight in on this one...simply from my experience.

USPS --  I never use.  Always more expensive.  9 out of 10 balls I have gotten shipped to me via USPS have boxes that look like they have been rolled down a concrete hill, twice.  Never had anything destroyed but somewhat scratched and dinged a little.  Space doesn't allow me to tell you what the single boxed ball looked like from USPS.

DHL  --  I have used them twice and received stuff from them, with good results.  Just not too accessible around here.

UPS  --  No issues here either.  Stuff always looks fine.  The one time a ball was stolen/lost in route, they were good on the insurance policy after receiving the paperwork and sending it in.  They are generally higher than DHL or FedEx.

FedEx  --  I have used them almost exclusively for the past year simply because there has never been an issue from them.  Besides being the most economical, they are easy to use, friendly, and quick to answer questions.

I ship and/or receive nearly 100 balls per year.  Just my observations.
