I've bowled about 5 times the past 5 years from coworkers asking to friend's parties. I've been just using the house equipment and not taking things serious. When you are away from bowling for so long, you realize how different the lanes look. Every time in the past I have gone away for long periods of time, I have returned better than before. I'm not sure if I will return again as I'm interested in other things. Still bodybuilding. Learning to play golf.
Anyways in the game that count yesterday, I bowled a 164 with 6 strikes. Used a 15lbs house ball and my hand hurts bad now.
Haven't seen the PBA on TV much anymore. The bowling alley I went to with coworkers was completely empty. I guess bowling is fading away unless you are in a league. People staying inside and playing bowling on their iPhones and video game systems.
Anyways, let me know if you are one of the originals from the mid-2000s in here.
Peace.

There still are people like Me that are on this site. I love this Site. It is good that all the freaks left. Bowling does not have to fade. For example why are You golfing? Thats more expensive than Bowling. And of course Your hand hurt after using a House Ball.
-
About the only people who frequent the site anymore are the people hawking bowling equipment, people who buy every ball put out by "their" company (cause its the greatest ball ever made, you know), and the people who are "on staff" that have to put reviews up because of their "contracts".
And me. But, I am old, work nights in a small town, and have nothing else to do during the day.
I guess most people are like you. They quit and found something else to do.

And cbb

I guess there's a few of us left, but not like it used to be.
Not nearly.

It is a shame. Bowlers complain about not getting awards. I can understand not getting 300 Rings. But getting upset for not getting a Patch? Only a portion of the $20 Sanction Fee goes to USBC. The Local assns in My Areas SUCK. People should stop worrying about getting Bowling in the Olympics. We need Our Leagues to prosper. We need to get people off their Phones and into an Alley. Thats right an Alley. Not a Family Fun Center.
-
Those are not family fun centers.
They are ENTERTAINMENT CENTERS. Owned by Bowlmor
Please leave your personal wealth at the service desk for your enjoyment.
Almost like Disney. By the time your done. Your out almost 200 for a couple of hours for 4 people. Break it down hourly. Might be cheaper to play with Mickey

Still here just don't post that much...haven't bowled in league in three years man I miss it financially don't have the cash...but like to be in the know what's new coming out..
-
I think there is still a lot of the old-timers here, most just don't post as much as before.
-
I still read, not daily. I too took about a 4 year break from bowling. Tried to come back last year and broke my hand. After surgery and therapy I bowled two handed for half a season because the ball was too heavy. Now I'm about to join a short season have a ball league and I'm committing myself to giving bowling another shot competitively. Starting back literally at zero and averaging 168 for 12 weeks was so humbling. There's so many things I do wrong physically, but I feel like there's so many things that I see right as far as reading the lanes. Physically, my game, I feel is completely different from what it used to be, is a more positive way. My speed and revrate are higher, and my release is more inside out than ever. If only I could hit a mark and make a multiple pin spare. :sigh:.
I do agree that a lot of people are still around, they just don't post as much. Also this site, look, and brand hasn't evolved since the mid 2000s. I actually like it a little for that reason, but this site and brand, if managed right, could be so much bigger and more valuable in the sport if it would have evolved like every other "brand" on the internet.

I am still here Necromancer.
I am officially taking a break from bowling on the lanes, but I still come on this site. Nice game with a house ball. If you do it again, maybe buy some tape so your hand won't hurt as much.
-
Cool replies. Yeah it's crazy how long I've been here. I think this site was one of the first message boards I joined ever. 14+ years now I think. Time went by fast and it's kind of depressing how fast everything goes now.
I think I might try going once a week or couple times a month to the bowling alley and practicing and see if I like it and see if my wrist and arm can take it. My wrist is still in a ton of pain from bowling 2 days ago. I might have to try to go down to 14lbs. I used 15-16lbs during my "prime" in the mid-2000s.
I'm only in my 30's but I also don't want my wrist/hand to get to the point where simple tasks like writing or eating become a problem. Bowling 20+ years does a lot of damage I guess - at least for me it did. I've been through 3 chiropractors now and still see one monthly for an upper back/neck injury that was partly the result of bowling injury years ago.
I might check out AllBowling out later this weekend.
I'm golfing now because coworkers introduced me and I'm kind of interested in it on a physics level - similarly to why I liked bowling so much. I'm also seeing a lot of progress with golf. When I quit bowling, progress was down to a halt. I bowled 290 several times and 279 several times. Never hit 300. But I'm satisfied overall. It's just a lot harder to go up from 210-220 average than it is to go from not being able to hit a golf ball to driving the ball 300 yards.
The industry overall is exactly where I predicted it would be. Industry makes bowlers think they need the newest and greatest. However, neither are true. The newest balls are no better than older ones IMO. In fact, golf equipment I've noticed has much longer longevity. I don't need to worry about how many games a golf club will last before it is "soaked" in oil.

Hey trash heap. I remember you. Seems like so many left here. The site changed a lot too. Prefer the older version more.

I think this site is a microcosm of bowling in general; people just seem to find other things to occupy their time. Bowlingballexchange is even worse. That place is a ghost town of epic proportions.

Yeah it is, but there site is a pain in the ass to navigate..

There are several of us that don't bowl anymore, but met through this site and still like to log in online to bs with each other. Since trolls got the non-bowling section shut down, we have to gather elsewhere to let off steam and give each other s**t.
I have no hard feelings for BR, I don't blame those who own/maintain the site for taking that section down. It had become an absolute zoo. But as a result, I'm not on this site much at all anymore. I have no need to discuss bowling, really, and being 5+ years and counting of being removed from competitive bowling, I have nothing of value to offer any new comers that won't be covered better by those who are actively competing in today's environment.

Yeah I remember that site. I just looked at it and it does seem empty.
As far as trolls on this site, I remember the guy that pretended to be me. I looked up usernames on here and saw 2 other "Necromancers". I read the one profile of one and busted out laughing last night. I looked at some of my older posts and it just seems like a completely different version of myself.
I guess I was a lot younger and had a lot more natural ability to do things to a bowling ball that I could do today, but it would just wreck my body moreso long-term.
Looking at the last PBA telecast, I did find a couple of things that were funny. I remember I posted on here years ago how they should make the PBA Finals more like a combination of NASCAR and WWE. Put a bunch of logos and ads on the player's shirts and have intro music for each player. Maybe PBA reps were reading my stuff afterall lol. Maybe I wasn't the first to think of these ideas.
I think the big difference with golf and bowling is that while golf equipment improved a lot the past 10 years, courses also got longer and can be made more difficult. With bowling, it's still 10 pins 60 feet away. I haven't use any of the new bowling balls but looking at some of the specs earlier today, it seems like it's the same marketing strategies - "ball is for heavy oil, hooks 10 on a 1-10 scale, crushes pins instantly". I can't believe I actually believed this stuff when I was younger and spent so much on bowling balls.
Today, many of these are sold or given away and the rest sit in my parent's yard. Yeah, that isn't a typo. Balls that were worth $200+ back in the day are now use for my dog's urinal spot lol.
I still have my favorites purely for their rarity and some to keep my specs in case I get a new ball drilled. I definitely have both Quantum's (which probably could sell for a lot on eBay), my Fury, Black Widow, and my most reliable ball ever - Storm Vertigo. I might have a spare ball undrilled lying around too.
At one point I had over 20 bowling balls to choose from before leagues or tournaments. Now I'm slowly replacing them with golf clubs lol.
Maybe I should write a research paper titled "How Reactive Resin Killed Bowling" or something haha.
-
Yeah, I can't get home from work in time to go, so that was the end for me.
Like 9 said there is no hard feeling for this site. I still come here and talk bowling sometime. I look to see what Visionary is putting out and if MAtt C has any videos.
That's about it.

And we're having a great time with good topics and lively discussions. Your loss for not showing up.

I agree. allbowling.com is proof a civil non-misc forum is still possible.
-
This is the first time I have logged in for an extremely long time. I wanted to get some reviews on a ball that I am thinking about for my wife since we both started bowling again.
-
I come back from time to time. Mostly lurk now, but I still look at the ball reviews, as I do still bowl.

I've been a member since August, 2003. I still visit almost every day, post only if I have something to add that already hasn't been said and which I think will be helpful. -- JohnP
-
I have been on here forever. Not as much activity as several years ago, but on the other hand I don't miss the flamers who trashed high scoring conditions, and pretty much everything else about the game.
-
Still here. This site has gone down slowly, but still log in daily to see the posts
-
I'm still here too, but don't chime in nearly as much as I used to.
-
I remember most of you haha, especially sdbowler. I think you used to post a lot when I was on here several years ago.
I've been watching more videos of bowling on youtube recently and it seems like 2-handed bowlers are dominating everywhere. I am mixed on this. Not sure if it should be allowed. But who knows. I looked at leagues but it seems like most have started already. I still need to find my bowling balls which I have in the closet somewhere. Hopefully after my hand/wrist heal, I will remember to try to hit the lanes for practice. The games around here are $3/game. Not sure if that is a good deal - but beats golf prices LOL!

That is good to hear that You agree Golf is more expensive. We as a group now need to lead this Forum now that all the ugly is out. I love Bowling and have been posting on here for Years.
-
I'm just logging back in myself. Been away from bowling for 7 or 8 years. Created my 1st account on here in 1999 I think.

Just started back after being out since mid July for back problems and then surgery. Having some other health problems also, so not sure what the future holds.

I am. Just 1 league for fun right now, but getting the itch for more.

One of those from the eteamz days that came over here when it went live in what, March 2001? Not really tossing the orb anymore though...lost most of my interest when the PWBA disappeared in 2003 and had pretty much quit leagues within a few years. Still have all the equipment though, save for a piece of Storm equipment that cracked all the way around while on the shelf...discovered that during the last move.
I can still win the office bowling party although we haven't had one of those for a few years...Roto Pearl Assault and a SonicX carry the day for those.

Wow, been logging in the past week. I've been away for a long time, but activity on this site has died. I remember the day when there would be as much activity on this site in 15-20 minutes that is now seen daily. Really disappointing.

They ran off a lot of people with the elimination of a popular sub-forum. That at least kept those who don't give a damn about discussions on the ball of the week interested in returning. There really aren't that many new questions that are going to come up that haven't been addressed on the forums in the past fourteen and a half years...
-
I still check the site about once a month, but I've given up the game at least for now. Injuries and some other issues have put me on the shelf. Glad to read that most everyone is doing well.
-
Here. But not that often anymore. No other bowling sites either. Been a little on face book, mostly on the iPhone to check in w/old friends & out of town family. Now that baseball season is over, I'll check up on the hot stove league.
Good to see you back, Necromancer. I remember the ***_____ (fill in the blank) who mocked you. Glad to see you can laugh at it. ;D

Haha. I've been watching a lot of videos of this bowler named Cortez Schenck and some others. It seems like these are the future PBA stars if there is a PBA in a few years.
Yeah, it was funny because reading my past posts, it seems like a completely different person. Some posters on here actually have seen me in real life at tournaments so they know I'm pretty nice. Trash heap I think used to bowl at some tournaments I was in years ago.
Anyways, I think if I go through with a 'comeback' of any sort, I'm going to go with a 3 or 4 ball set up. I think I screwed myself years ago by getting more and more equipment. Almost to the point where I didn't even know how some even reacted to lanes. I would have a bad game and just switch balls for no reason.
I'm also leaning towards a 14lbs ball. I'm not sure why I went to 16lbs when I was younger and then 15lbs. I had this idea that weight created strikes. But as I'm watching Cortez and a few others bowl, there is no way they are using 16lbs balls. Also they are only rolling the ball around 14mph which I had trouble doing if I tried when I bowled. I usually was around 20mph. And on spares, higher.

Interesting thread. I see a few familiar names from the old days.
I am only bowling one night a week. Averaging about 10 or so pins less than 4 or 5 years ago. Don't put as much into it anymore. Our team won a league last year but I missed about a third of the nights because of various injuries (plantar fasciitis, particularly was hard to get rid of).
I play better golf these days than I ever have because I am putting more time into it. I threaten to break 80 a lot and do so about 4 times a year.
I have only bought one new ball (a Thug Unruly to go to El Paso in June) in 4 or 5 years. Used to buy 2 or 3 a year. Down to about 8 in my inventory from nearly 20.
I do still visit here every month or so to kind of keep up on the newest Storm and Roto stuff, see what people are talking about regarding Nats and visit the Misc. forum and check on messages from others who used to battle the Toad who single handedly caused the demise of the Misc/ non bowling forum. Otherwise, too many other things to do. :)

Not to resuscitate old demons, but the individual known variously by multiple screen names like Let$Bowl4Money, Cool Rocking Daddy, The Omnipotent, Master Control Program, Long Gone Daddy, Sunshine n Lollipops and many more over the years.
If you've been around for a while, you may remember some of them. He killed a whole forum. But, that was then......
