High Load Paticle Balls
« on: June 22, 2004, 11:40:31 PM »
Thanks to you knowledgeable gentleman on this board I now know what
drill I would like to put on my heavy oil ball. What I now need is
a list of the Heavy Load particle balls. I pretty much know about
medium and low load balls. I need that heavy oil ball that I will
only use few times a year. Thaks again.

Off the top of my head, the only newer ball I can think of that was advertised as having a high load was the recently discontinued Brunswick Swamp Monster.  Most companies are finding better ways of achieving hook than high particle loads.  They are hard on the lanes, detroy the oil pattern quickly, and tend not to last very long.

Its just that particle balls do require some maintenance and most bowlers don't want to do that.. They are to lazy..

If they only made a ball that would carry that d*mn 10 pin..

Colossus Supreme, Mayhem, Reaction Roll and Arc, Buzzsaw Carbide???  which Carbide again?

REgards,

PS some great heavy oil league balls (oil to the outside).  For flat oil patterns anything can work you just have to fit your backend.

The Granite Gargoyle seems pretty high-load to me.  It not only looks like cement, it feels like cement.  I'm not sure, but I think that the particles in that ball are a softer material than most particles.  It's hard to say, since companies are not too forthcoming about their particle material.

super carbide bomb i polished it heavy and it is still the dullest ball i own, i can play 5th arrow on most shots with it. This ball hooks at my toes and just flat out hooks anything i have including the ultimate inferno and phenom balls.

Again though, I saw a guy on a very heavy shot use a Mayhem, he could hit the pocket but not hit it flush.  Because as we all know, these low rg balls force one have a touch of swing even in the heads.  This then does not give the ball enough recovery.

This is not a criticism of Mayhem, it would happen to all the greats above!

One MUST point a touch on heavy FLAT oil and surprisingly on these FLAT heavy oil shots a higher RG ball that Allows one to point is the key!!!
Some I have used successfully(very), Pro Zone Violet, Spell, Demolition Zone, Battle Zone Bullet(a pearl can you believe it!) on the heaviest oil.

When there is some heavy oil but some dry to the outside I just take out my monster Reaction Roll and have my way with it!

I have a ball for medium heavy/heavy league oil. I looking for a
tournament heavy oil/flood ball. I know it won't move much in
extremely heavy oil, but I assume heavy load is the way to go. Is
there anything other than the Animal or Super carbide? Thank you.

Therefore to complete Bob's well tested and tournament conditioned thought.

NO, under most FLAT oil conditions, high load, low rg particle balls are NOT the way to go on long and FLAT!

Now on heavy oil with DRY to the outside they are great!!!!  As they are designed to swing slightly to a lot and once they find dry to the outside they will come back.

If no dry to the outside they are death!

I think that the main advantage to the high load particle balls in heavy oil is that especially if they are kept in a rough state, the particles combined with the rough surface enable the ball to slow down enough to get into a roll; thus avoiding the problem of having a ball skidding into the pins instead of rolling.

Just a side note.  You can't tell a ball's particle load by looking at it or feeling the surface.  Odd feeling covers include the Silver Streak Particle, Truck, Cure, Midnight Scorcher, Granite Gargoyle, Tombstone.  I know the SSP has a 4% load, medium high.  You'd have to ask the manufacturer about the actual load.  You can get a bit of action in heavy oil without a high particle load.  Don't let that be your primary concern.

I can appreciate what LLefty and Mr.Hanson are saying. Da Shiv somes
up what i'm trying to deal with in tournaments, squaring up to the line
and pointing the ball only to have it slide all the way to the pocket
and not get into a roll and deflect leaving you ugly splits and seven pins
all day. If the conditions are tough for everybody thats O.K., i'll take
what I can get. The question is how do you guys attack it and what do you
use and how is it drilled? Do you take a high load particle and drill to
go a little longer? Thanks
