Anything comparable to Track Freak?
« on: June 09, 2004, 03:12:55 AM »
I LOVE the Freak by Track. Many people consider this to be the best ball that Track has ever created. I think this is a great ball, but i'm nervous about what I should replace it with, if the need ever comes about. I'm sure I could always get another one, but since they are discontinued finding another one may be a bit difficult when the time comes. I was wondering if you guys could give me some input on what I should replace it with. I want something that rolls similar to my Freak, but is preferably a Track ball. I was thinking maybe an Animal. Give me some of your thoughts.

TJFreaky, how goes?  Whilst waiting for Rick and EX to chime in, i'll give my personal, completely biased opinion of the Freak.  I agree with you in saying this is one of the best balls Track has ever made...however, there is a perfect replacement for it.  Enter, the Phenom Unleashed!  I actually have two of them right now, one drilled with pin under bridge, MB on VAL.  The other, which replaced my Freak, is pin under ring finger, MB kicked out slightly off of where it would be in a stack (similar to a 5x4.5 or 4x3.5), keep it in box finish and you have yourself and perfect "replacement" for the Freak.  I love my Unleashed so much that my Freak currently sits in a corner in my closet (i'd sell/trade it, but it's got sentimental value as I shot my first and only sanctioned 300 with it).

I agree that the Unleashed might be the closest thing Track currently has that would compare to the Freak. However, I think the Unleashed is also a bit stronger than the Freak. If you get an Unleashed though, you wont be disappointed.

True, while the Unleashed is probably a bit stronger than the Freak (maybe 2 or 3 boards, not TOO much of a difference, but the difference is there...), I think it is more versatile than the Freak.  Meaning, the Unleashed (or at least the 2 i've had) is more responsive to hand position changes than the Freak.

Hey TJ,

The guys are right, the Unleashed is the closest ball to the Freak, as we speak now.  I would however recommend a weaker drill on the Unleashed as it has a stronger backend reaction then the Freak by design.  Hope this helps...

Now, I know that all Track balls are supposed to hit, and hit hard, but does the Phenom Unleashed hit just as hard as my Freak? Harder? Weaker? Thanks for the input fellas.

Whelp...while not very noticable, there is a little better hit with my PU than with my Freak.  Shots in the pocket that would be your typical strike are now blown away by the PU.  Other than that, off-pocket hits (both light and high) have still been carried at a high percentage with the PU.

I loce the freak, one the best 2 balls I have ever bowled, anlong with the Zone HPD.  The freak hit's like a demon and holds well.  Not too good when the lanes lose the oil but fight's it's way well through carry through.  Great Ball by Track.
