High School Bowling Teams
« on: April 22, 2005, 05:38:44 AM »
I wasn't sure where to post this, but this looked like a good place.  For the past year or so, my friends and I have been trying to get the school to start, unsuccessfully, a bowling team.  I was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas on how we can make the administration see that this is a good idea.  We have already demonstrated the fact that it could be done through our travel league.  If you can help, let me know please.

Thanks, Klugh

Here are a few things to do that will help.  Go to bowl.com and high school bowling.  There is a wealth of information there on the site. Look for Ron Hatfield in Ohio. I believe he is at Westerville South. He wrote the book on High School Bowling.  Get your parents involved at the school and district level.  Contact bowling headquarters and get the printed materials they have to your parents and school officials.  Contact any high school bowling officials in your state and ask them for help.  Get organized!  We have links and information that might help on our site.

We feel we have a pretty fair program developing and would be more than happy to assist you.

The way we have to do it at my school is that Boys' Bowling is considered a club, rather than an actual sports team. We had about 6 teams of 6 each (5 bowl each week). We sign up our teams in the local high school travel league, which is co-ed, even though we only allow boys to do it from our school. The reason is that when the girls bowl, all of a sudden bowling becomes a sport, with varsity letters and everything.

Alright, Smash49 . . . I'll look into that. Last year we had it set up as a club, however, after Spring Break, the idea just kind of died. We have the managers from both centers here in town working on it also. Thanks, I have a feeling I'll be using that link quite a bit.
