Highest / Best Skid-Flip Ball 2012/2013
« on: February 26, 2013, 11:00:30 AM »
Hey all,

I've seen some posts from a couple years back on the 'net about the best Skid/Flip ball.  The Storm Victory Road seemed to take the top honors back then.

How about today?  What do you guys think is the best, or highest skid/flippy ball that is out there?

The best skid/flip ball is the Brunswick Nexxxus f(P+S). This ball has the strongest reaction off the friction spot.

The best one I have personally seen is the Hammer First Blood. I don't throw one, and I'm not a Hammer fan, but that ball really turns the corner hard.

The Roto Grip Shatter is very skid/flip.  The new Ringer by Brunswick seems to fit that as well.  The Misfit Pearl is another option.  Even with the low rg core, due to the coverstock, the Violent Eruption (my favorite) is a great choice.  If you need something that can handle a little more oil, then look into an Innovate by Ebonite.

IMO....the Violent Eruption reminds me alot of the Victory Road Pearl; pretty angular off the spot without being uncontrollable and can handle similar amount of oil.

I was actually looking at the Shatter, but this is some good info.  I'm looking for something that is mainly for light / medium-light conditions.  However the purpose of the thread, was to get some ideas about these particular balls, for this season on the internet so it can be searched by others.

Thanks, and keep em coming!

I think my 900 Global Dirty Look is great skid/flip ball. From what I've seen I'd add the Storm IQ Tour Pearl, Fire Road, Roto Grip Defiant Edge, Brunswick Aura, and the Columbia 300 Vow would be on my list of great skid/flip balls of the past year to the present.

I really like my Shatter on med-light conditions.  I didn't even pay attention to it until I threw one at a match maker.  The first time I rolled it the ball was awesome.  I definetly recommend it for those conditions you seek.

From what I have seen locally, I have to agree with Brandon...

I have both the Brunswick Nexxxus (the bronze colored one) and the Track 811A.  For my slower speed (14.5 mph at the pins) the 811A is a benchmark ball with the rollier drill I have on it (pin about 4 in from PAP next to ring finger).  I am guessing that with the pin further from my PAP it would be quite a bit more angular.

Sometimes I have to ball down to something less aggressive up front if the oil is a little lighter (a Twisted Fury Pearl is what I use), so it does require some oil.  I have not thrown the Nexxxus that much since I just got it, but it seems to require a little more oil even though it is drilled to go a little longer than my 811A.
Anyway, the 811A is a great ball (had back to back 800s with it, the first I have had since 2009).

Since you are a tweener/cranker, you may also want to think lower end and go with a Freeze or Cyclone.  Those balls are plenty strong enough for most lighter to medium conditions.  Plus, it will save you a few dollars as well.  ALOT of ball for the money.

Definitely agree on the Cyclone, I'd add if you can find a black Cyclone Pro Model like I have, definition of skid/flip-it has the Cyclone core with the Hammer Jet Black Taboo cover, one of the few cross-brand balls I have seen EBI do in a while.

Also second the First Blood, since EBI has went to 1500 ab on some balls in their lines, they have gotten more and more skid/flip reactions. First Blood is massive off the spot.

I actually do have a cyclone.  I love my accuracy with it, but it hit the pins a bit flat on certain occasions.  I thought possibly a misfit or a shatter would help out a bit.

Thanks so much for all your input.  I've put together a spreadsheet and have bowling balls categorized through all oil patterns.
