hips during the slide
« on: November 02, 2016, 12:34:03 PM »
I think I'm loosing a little bit of leverage during my slide due to my hips rising up a few inches. I could see in slow motion video where this happens. When my ball is about 2.5 to 3 ball length from my left ankle or when my slide stops, my hips bump upwards as my momentum is moving forward. As my push off leg is at its full length and starts making its sweeping move to the tripod position, my hips go. (this is how I can describe it without a video show.).

I can probably describe my slide and finish/posting position being close to Rick Steelsmith with me having a slightly lower back swing.

I'm also wondering if there is/are other possible problems caused my rising hips. Besides leverage, how about my release... or something else....

Am I wrong about my hips, or am I close to something and needing a fix? You see, I get complements over the years about my "smooth approach and delivery" in real time, but in slow motion video, the ugly comes out.

Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Usually the hips rise because insufficient knee bend, which also results in leaning too far forward which kills leverage.

That's the thing, my shoulders and head are slightly behind my knee as my ball is besides my ankle.  likewise, my knee bend is about 110 - 120* at this point.

Once you've stopped sliding, you are rotating forward over the ankle of the slide foot.

For your hips to rise, the distance between your hips and your ankle must be increasing, which requires the knee to straighten out.
