Team Handicap Max ??

We are a struggling league, and allowed a couple teams who although have improved during the season are still well below the skill level of many of the top teams.

  Too many top tier teams are threatening to quit the league if a Team Cap for handicap is not enacted.  Right now handicap is set at 90% of 230 (with no team or individual max).

  Anyone ever have to set rules to try and keep all parties happy.  If the league loses just a couple more teams it will most likely dissolve before next season.  Thanks.

Just to get one thing straight.  I personally do not have a problem giving 350+ pins handicap a game (and we have) if that's the way it comes down.  I do not want any guarantee and have yet to find a system that gives it.  We've consistently had a high average team in one league....7 years winter and summer.  Combined seasons, we have won the league twice.  Now where is that "higher average bowlers always win" rule?  But its OK, we don't expect to win.  We do expect to be competative and we do expect to be a team that fights to win.  But we don't expect to win.  

The problem is that many newer bowlers and social bowlers simply do not understand handicap.  They do not want to get better and they do not want to put any effort into getting better or winning for that matter.  Since centers want to fill houses, mixed handicap leagues have become leagues with wide differences in skill levels and goals (as far as why they are bowling). When you have such divercity you cannot please everyone.

What ever your entering average was, your average couldnt fall more than 10 pins below that.
Example-
Your entering average was 190, your average wouldn't drop below a 180 for figuring handicap.
So if your average dropped to say a 170,the handicap would be based on the 180 average.

Your entering average was 200, your average wouldn't drop below a 190 for figuring handicap.
So if your average dropped to say a 175,the handicap would be based on the 190 average.


I wish one of my leagues had this. We had a guy who is a 210+ avg bowler enter week 10 last year at 182.... Well..he finished at 216...

We bowled in one league for many years that had this 10 pin drop rule for 7 weeks of the winter season.  For 21 games you could not bowl 10 pins under your average and have it effect your entering average.  Week 2 couple  winters ago.....two teams found this out and dropped immediately.  Guess it made their game plan obvious.
