Hmm soap???
« on: October 24, 2003, 03:42:18 AM »
Today in biology class, we had a worksheet about soap, and how one end of the soap molecule attracts to the oil on the body, and never lets go, then when the soap is washed away, the oil and dirt are stuck with it..

So, what if I were to rub soap on a bowling ball, then wash the soap off with water???

The soap will clog the "pores" of the ball's surface and you'll need a deep brushing to get it out, if you can. It will also prevent the ball from gripping the lane ...

next idea !

you're talking apples and oranges. You were talking about rubbing soap into your ball to prevent oil from getting on it or into it or something like that. WAShing it with soap in a dishwasher is not putting raw soap on a ball, but soap dissolved in hot water being sprayed under pressure cleans most grease and oil and loosens most dirt - two different things.

If you wish, rub a bar oof soap hard into your track and then bowl with it. Let us know what the results are. I am sure it will repel the oil, but I'd be interested in hearing from you what else happens.

Well i meant apply soap, then apply water to remove the soap, not actually keep the soap on there. Sine one end of soap molecules cling to oil and dirt, and the other ends attracts to water(according to our biology book), no soap nor dirt and oil should remain on the ball once water is applied.

One thing to keep in mind is that some soaps also contains lanolin.  Not exactly conducive to gripping the lanes.

You don't use soap in a dishwasher. Detergents are all that is recommended.
There is a huge difference between soap and detergent.
