Hoinke 2004
« on: August 09, 2004, 09:55:33 PM »
For what its worth, here's our rundown of this trip.

I had a little bit of car trouble, got to the Hoinke about 11:30 Sat.

We shot the 2:30 doubles.

Me 164 - 174 - 189.  Not a very stellar performance.

I started the first game using my DT Thing.  Shot appeared to be acaross 20 out to about 12.  First 2 shots went brooklyn, ball was hooking up about 35'.

I switched to a higher RG ball, Primetime.  I got about 1' more skid, just enough to leave 4-6-7, 4-6-10.

Switched to plastic XXXL in about the 6th frame after going spare buzzard, spare.  Shot straight up 10 with decent reaction, just couldn't carry the corners.

Kendog was using the Thing Returns, had a playable shot across 18 out to 10.  Great length, booming backend.  No room for error though, a little slow it was thru the beak, a little fast left washouts.

Thongprincess and Livespive had even less of of a shot.

Sunday I shot doubles again, 9:00 AM, fresh oil.  Used the Thing in practice, same results as before.  Ball was just hooking up too early.

Switched back to the plastic, played up 9 board.  Shot 222 - 241 - 189.

Thought I had things figured out until the 3rd game when the wheels fell off again.

The people that were scoring were playing deep with a ton of revs keeping the breakpooint around the 12 at around 40'.

Thongprincess shot teams with a group from Hamtramck, Mi, 1200 squad.  2d shift on the lanes.

She's a lefty, shot for her was around 9-10 with firm speed.  She was just eating the pocket up, wsn't getting the carry she deserved.

She shot 193-211-201.  Last game should have been a big game except for 3 solid 7s.

I wouldn't really call it a reverse block, the outsides were dry enough to play, you just couldn't hit the outside early with any kind of swing.

Oh well, there's always next year.  Hopefully we can have afew more people show up.  May have picked up 20 new ballreviews members from the Hamtramck group.

It was the fresh oil, it was night of good sleep
that helped you on Sunday

Nice to see that you did salvage some scores out of the Weekend

Us bigboys (Me and Kendog {well me at least }) went on a Road trip
after we left.  We left to go find this BBQ joint and had to drive up and
down the mountains to find it.

All and all it was a good weekend.
I might have to go try it one more time, you know third times the charm.

Eric or whomever .... drop me a line.  I live in Cincinnati and Western is for sure a different shot.  Maybe we can bowl some doubles.  Catch em on a good day and you score, bad day you are done.  For sure a deep shot is the norm.  Our Masters Tournament was there 2003-2004.  I go 279-210-200 and then could not break 190 the remaing three.  The Masters was a 6 game quaifier for and when they dry out they dry out quick.  For sure there seems to be an out of bounds area.  I usually do best around 15-20 and try not to get the ball wide.

I went back Monday to try Singles, but the 10AM squad was full and no one was there for 12 noon.  You need at least 2 bowlers for singles, so I have to settle with a 486 in doubles 193-126-167 and 605, as Sr Kegler already reported.

If finances are in order, I'll be back next year and hope to have everything pre arranged to do it all.

The better series on Sunday may have been influenced by the spirit of Harry

Sr Kegler didn't even get his namesake one time  No SrKegler Taps this year.  Sr Kegler, Livespive, and KenDog are great to bowl with.

As stated already, we need a larger showing from BR next year.

I'm definitely looking to make another trip this year. This was my first Hoinke experience.

My take on the doubles; shoot before 2:00 shift would probably be a big advantage over the 2:30 shift we shot. The shot was broken down and got worse as we went. Secondly, try not to get stuck next to a guy that bowls real funky, touching his ball to the lane stretched out like a pelican, before he takes off from a bent over position and being a gigantic distraction. lol I'm serious, that guy, God bless him, was the biggest distraction, next to strippers, that I've ever seen in a bowling alley! I mean, T/P and I laughed and grimaced at that guy the whole time! Well anyway, it seems obvious that the earlier shift gives you a little more room for error.

Thanks T/P, Livespive, and especially Srkegler, for getting us together. Next year, maybe we can be a little more prepaired.

Thanks for the update!

I can't wait until October when I head down there with my 20 person squad.  People in my league are all heading down there together.  I hope we don't stay at Green Gables Motel again.  That place was a dump.

IF you are going to be down in October, I might save my last trip until then.

Eric,

I just pm'd SrKegler telling him that I'm definitely heading down there from Oct. 7-9.  Hopefully you can make the trip over to Western and we can have a BR sweep (or pot game, as you guys refer to them as).  Wait a minute, I'd just be handing my money over to you guys... maybe not.

Pepper, I can make it for the 8th & 9th.  Maybe Ken & Andy can make it.  Only need 1 more for a BR team.

If we do it like we did last time, everyone just shows up, and we grab open spots.

It would be better to reserve spots that late in the season.
