Explain me this...
« on: July 21, 2008, 05:16:27 AM »
It's driving me nuts... though all my four balls are drilled "the same" in the span... they don't feel the same and I can release them the same but they do not rev the same...

one is feeling 100% right... I swing it... I let it go and it revs! Great transition down the lane and shwoing a nice smooth arc... very controllable and constant

the next one is the thumb a tad too big and I can't rev it as much as #1 but yet it is working

the third is drilled by the first and also feels right but it just does not rev as much as #1... or am I just "seeing" things... is this ball reving as much and I just "recognize" it different? On the other hand I can trust my eyes and I can count... and 8 revs vs 16 are quite different

now my 4th is my XXXL and has/shows a big problem... it slips of my hand...
when I get back in my swing I have the feeling of losing the ball though the span is right and the ball fits... I have the feeling it slips off my ringfinger.. well not really... I have the feeling the span ring-thumb is too short but that's not the case!
... only when I keep straight behind the ball then it is not that way... anything else is feeling unstable and irritating as losing the ball is worst case scenario! And you can guess... I miss my target then.

AndI need to play the ball with no hook... or I will not get the tenpin....

What is wrong?

I have two balls that feel right but yet one is not reving as much as the other though the feeling is the same (by 90%)... is that little difference in the grip... remember only the thumbholes are slightly different in size but it is just a tad... almost nothing.

IS the core responsible? or is it really that little itsy bitsy difference in the thumbhole?

It's hard to say exactly what problems you are having.  Balls with lower RG cores are a little easier for you to rev up off your hand for the same reason they rev up sooner on the lane.  But also how well you can get the ball off your hand can make a big difference.  How much bevel you have on the thumbholes can drastically alter how quickly your thumb comes out of it.  The fingers can also make a big difference.  I'm in the process of installing these in all of my balls, but even with that they still don't feel identical.  But they're at least much, much closer.  (I'm going to post pics in the next day or two of the Vise interchangeable thumb inserts since their website doesn't have any info yet)

keep me informed

it is frustrating to have a good arsenal but not being able getting 100% out of the balls...

I know it is futile to expect the balls to be the same but I see a big difference in reving them and of course on missing my target with my sparse ball is just a no-no.. though I spared very good today as I know my stuff... just the tenpin is a problem... cause the XXXL hooks... and the new house has a short pattern and flying backends... I need to get the XXXL out on board one at the breakpoin or it will be hooking away.... or not hook it... which can't cause of the instability... DOH!

Ok, here is my guess:

Like you said the machine is good, so we will work on the lane 1 balls.

The 3rd ball that feels right, but does not rev much,  is it the carbide pluse drilled label?

The 2nd one is the stacked H2O

I am probably going to assume that these are all layed out leverage?

I have noticed with some of my equipment that the label leverage doesn't look like it is reving enough, but it does the job.  My other leverage drills rev up fine.  The position of the core in your hand may be causing you problems.  That what it was for me.  I just didn't like cetain layout.  what I would do is buy a used ball and try different layouts.
