HOINKE RERATE : (
« on: April 29, 2008, 05:22:59 AM »
Recently me and my four other tournament bowlers shot the Hoinke and took over the lead in team scratch and handicap with 3412.  Now I know that will not win the tournament but now I am sure.  Two of my guys got rerated only a few pins to make a difference to 3390ish.  Now I am not whining but when bowlers excelled in the past or choose to bowl less averages do go down and when the tournament goes back 5 years you get the rerate.  I myself for example averaged 227 a few years ago as my high but this year i was down, injuries, turning 45ish, bowling less all contribute.  I wanted to share this to set the precedent that but still all in all I can say i led the hoinke one time for a few weeks.

Oh well such is life....Nod

Yo! i feeeel your pain!

Our league did the Hoinke this time last year. We had one team with a regional PBA player on it. He had sent all his info in, months in advance. They were well aware he was on this team. When it became apparent after the first two games bowled, in team event, that they were going to take over the lead in team event.....whoa......all of a sudden there is a problem!!!!

Not only did they disqualify the team, they would not let him collect any of his winnings in any of the pots they run. I will not be going back there, if that is indicative of how they run their show. And I will discourage others from attending also!

The thing that really stuck in our craw, is that the anchor on the team that was leading the event at that time, was a PBA central regional player!!!
And an employee of the pro shop located at the house where the HOINKE hails from! Now imagine that.....

Yeah, they protect their own in Cincy!

That's Crazy.  It's just a shame that people who abused the Sandbagging make it hard for those who dont.  Im averaging 15 to 20 pins lower this year.  Im at 1 187 on my Monday nite league.  I subbed about 30 games in another league and averaged 192.  This is the lowest i have been since age 15 or 16.  Im now 23.  I dont put as much time into my game.  Not nearly as much time and my average shows as a result.  My fear is going to a tournament and truly averaging what i am averaging and being rerated because people know that i "bowl better than that".  It sux.

I'm guessing you meant 3412 to 3390ish, which isn't too bad.  I've gone for the past 6 years now and I've noticed that sometimes the people at the window don't always follow the 10pin lower rule.  For most it doesn't matter since they end up bowling average anyway and won't be in the money.  But in your situation it would be foolish of them not to check and rerate if necessary.  It sucks for you, but there are hundreds of guys that get rerated because of the 10pin lower rule.

To quote from the Hoinke Classic Site:

quote:
The Hoinke Classic is a tournament where anyone, men or women, can win. Why? Because we take the difference between your league average and a 220 scratch, then add the necessary pins to level the field.

When going to a handicap "tournament", understand the rules and be able to document your bowlers' status as necessary.

Unfortunately, even that may not protect you as most handicap "tournaments" have a re-rate rule built-in somewhere that is at the "tournament" director's discretion.

If you shoot lights-out, have a reasonable expectation to be re-rated as a scratch bowler.
