Shipping Prices Please...
« on: December 17, 2008, 12:18:13 AM »
For a 16lbs package (bowling ball of course) in a cubical box, what are the prices generally for:

-UPS
-FedEX
-DHL
-USPS
-Other

I have always used USPS around here and it is usually $16-17 for a 15-16lbs ball.  I tried using UPS once but the ghetto azz clerk ignored me and I walked out after 5 minutes.  However, I see ball companies ship balls for free with UPS ground.  I see this with other stuff I buy online too like clothes, games, electronics, etc.  Is there a way to get free UPS ground?

Thanks

NEVER ever ship a bowling ball USPS parcel post (regular 1st class mail) unless you want it to take up to 30 days to get to the destinantion. There is also no way to actually track the location of the ball with that shipping method. You can do a 2-3 day priority Mail service but it will cost you an arm and a leg.

If someone tells me they ship USPS, I tell them sorry I am not interested.

Now to answer your question, I use fed ex exclusively and have ana account and its normally anywhere from $13-$16 with $100 insurance depending on where its going and thats double boxed in a 9x9x9 outer box. If the person lives in a smaller town, it can cost a little bit more, but I have found Fed Ex to be the cheapest over UPS and DHL.

I am not sure what you mean when you ask about free UPS ground. Just like the old saying, nothing is free. Someone is paying UPS for that shipping costs.

Why do you need to ship it? You are so freaking strong you should just be able to THROW it to wherever it needs to go.

Do you get the double boxes at FedEx?  I usually use the boxes that the balls I get sent to me.  Also I didn't know it took that long at USPS.  They tell me it will arrive there 5-7 days.  I hope they aren't lying.

I just use the outer boxes that balls are shipped to me in and have also used a 2nd regular ball box and taped it up really well.

The post office will tell you 5-7 days but since there is no way to track it thay are not obligated to any time frame.

I have had a ball take over 1 month using usps parcel post. Never again.

priority mail is 2-7 days and often times i have found them to be faster then ups.  I use ups and fedex for the tracking ability, but if i am shipping overseas, USPS is cheaper and way way faster

I dont use the USPS much, but will say they are vastly improved over where they used to be

With the Tracking number you can get one it just cost a little extra. The last time I sent a ball I think it was $1-2 for the Tracking number. Yet I did use there standard large package box.

USPS does not have actual tracking on domestic priority mail and parcel post.

Here is what the USPS website says:

Provides tracking for the delivery of Express Mail and Global Express Guaranteed and CONFIRMATION of delivery for domestic Priority Mail and Parcel Post.

What this means is the package is scanned when its dropped off at your local post office and when it arrives at its destination post office. Thats it. You have no idea where it is in between.. Thats called confirmation of delivery, not actual tracking. With fed and ups ground there is much more info available and you know the updated real time status of where the package is located.

I also not going to pay an extra $2 for something thats free with ups and fed ex ground.. Sorry, thats what I meant to say..

USPS sucks! someone shiped a ball to me that way and it took about 4 week to show up and all the time they didn't know where it was.I won't use or accept USPS again!I ship UPS and the price is about 12.00 to 17.00 with 100.00 insurance included depending on where it's going.I box my own stuff and have never had a problem YET with UPS.

I am fedex ground fan with signature required, never an issue and everybody has always got the ball in top notch shape so far.

No, UPS doesn't give free shipping to anyone. The company just eats the cost of the shipment or adds it into the sale price.
