Home made spinner? look
« on: July 07, 2004, 07:44:12 PM »
I just drew somep lans in Paint, on the computer. There very rough mind you, but you get the idea. I would build 2 boxes from 2x4's and cover it with like 3/4 inch plywood. Also, I would make everything a little shorter, so its got less chance to vibrate a lot, and find something to bolt them both to. If I could find an old motor, which I most likely can, this would be much cheaper then buying a new spinner. Plus fun to build.

All joking aside though, I really am pretty good with my hands. I always build things. Other people on here have built them, just because Im 16, doesnt mean I would hurt myself. I think things through about most things I could hurt myself doing.

Has nothing to do with age.  Any time you try to McGuyver something, it's recipe for disaster.

Not worth all the trouble when you can buy one for $100 bucks used.. I have a Vertex 1/2 hp spinner and really see no way a home made unit is gonna work that well, if at all.. To many things have to be just right or its spinning to fast or too slow and the bowl is a whole other issue..

Like I said before, just not worth all the hassle..

TheBowlingKid25,

Thats your job, not mine. Like I said, there was one posted in the for sale forum yesterday for $110 and my friend bought that one. I bought the same unit (vertex 1/2 hp) from user typhoon about 6 weeks ago for $110.

They are out there, just need to be ready to buy when the deal comes along so start saving your allowance and maybe you can get one someday..

good luck..

For the bowl, find a deep pulley from a car engine.
Already has a hole in the exact center. Line the edge with some rubber
hose split in half and glue it on it

If you use any glue on anything, use Gorilla Glue that sh!t holds anything.

Look at it this way... I used to destroy and build things a lot as a kid... I'm now an engineer.

If you want to build it, do it. Just be safe, and take a GOOD look at what you are trying to replicate before you start.

...and never forget MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE. Same thing goes for the design, only go over your design as much as you can possibly stand...

GL!

support your mothers pottery hobby and encourage her to buy a pottery wheel. you can spin one of those fast enough to polish or sand a ball and can control speed very well. You just have to find some way to keep the ball on the wheel.
