This guy has a homemade bowling ball listed on ebay! Cool looking ball, but you could only use it in practice games with it not being USBC approved!

There are videos on You Tube of that ball being thrown. The owner is also on this web site, or well at least used to be at one time.

I remember that. I believe he used ball plug and a symmetric core which was positioned with the hook again ball cast. It was pretty cool and it actually hooked a decent amount.
Here's the video:

Well if you wanted to, you could easily do this very similar thing at home. Just use dark colors and put your own serial number on the ball. USBC rules state that if a ball has been resurfaced too many times where labels are no longer viable then a number can be added to the ball to identify it.
Lets be honest USBC does not check bowling balls for static weight or other things to make sure they are legal. Even on honor scores. I've seen several illegal balls on the banned list used during league nights and most people never know they aren't usbc legal.

That bowling ball looks like it could pass off as a Zebra ball blem if you ask me. lol

I made 1 that looks almost exactly the same OTHER THAN I used a Dr.Pepper bottle 1/2 full of water for the core so I can actually make it change directions with different releases!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

If he used a display core from Columbia there is a good chance that it's not a full density core. Also, if it was a real core, the lack of the light density filler would have pretty much eliminated any real flare potential.

Where can you find the things needed to try and make your own ball?

I believe that is correct. You can also use marine/car resin. If you can figure out what additives are added by manufactures you could probably have even more fun.
