HONESTY Thread: Walled Shot or Hard Shot?
« on: October 30, 2006, 03:20:14 AM »
Which would you prefer?

If Im in a slump I want an easier shot to get my confidence up and to make me think I can bowl well. In doing so when this usually happens and I bowl on a harder pattern I tend to bowl ALOT better.

So which do you HONESTLY prefer?

I'm an anal perfectionist, so I prefer tougher patterns.  Makes good shots feel more rewarding, and it really separates the good bowlers from the hacks who think they're good.

Thing is, good shots are good shots, regardless of the condition.  You know when you're making quality shots on either condition.  It's just that you're rewarded far more often for an errant shot on a THS than on a tougher condition.

Being I'm in serious slump, I haven't a preference as I'm trying to iron out the imperfections in my game.  When you're slumping, easy conditions are difficult and difficult conditions are *#&$^&^#!!!!!

How many have struggled on an easy shot only to do better on a harder one?

Easier shots present less focus to execute hence recovery from errant throws.  Harder conditions expose the imperfections, thus increasing the level of concentration.

I believe bowlers as a whole have shown they like easier shots. They tend to flock to the easy scoring centers.

I prefer a more demanding shot but they are a rare find.

Agreed! Thats why I posted this. People bit*h and complain about hard shots. IMO, when they are around a crowd they want to fit in so they say they want a hard shot but on the other hand they bit*h and cry when it is and say they want to quit.

Hard shot always!! I agree with HamPster: if you got beaten in a hard shot you feel "man, these guys are better bowlers than me", and I want to practice more to improve my game. Instead, if you got beaten in an easy shot by a bunch of posers with jokels styles who are putting the ball everywhere in the lane and carrying everything, well.... it doesn't feel good. And, an easy shot doesn't encourage bad bowlers to improve.

Just my "dos centavos"...

Either condition as your only condition to bowl on for 36 weeks would be a tough diet to swallow every week.

Maybe thats why I enjoy golf so much and look forward to each round. Its never the same from one day to the next.

For me, the ideal would be a league where one week we have the THS and the next week a sport compliant shot and keep alternating for the entire season.

I really like this idea Sawbones. I actually mentioned something similar to one of my leagues and they said they couldn't and even if they could it would be to hard for the other youth bowlers. I guess bowling is about having the easy shot so everyone can be happy

Depends on the mood. I'm all for tougher shots all the time, but when you're slumping it's nice to have a wall to get the scores back up high again.

I love tougher shots. I love averaging a 170-180 ona sport shot. But case like last week, I bowled our monthly travel league and it's a "challenging shot (sport shot on a non-certified league). I bowled well in the beginning, but it was wood lanes, and all the oil was gone. Couldn't barely go 130 average. It was nice coming back home on a wall to boost my confidence back up.

Couldn't tell you.  Nobody within 100 miles of my hometown puts out anything without a wall.

I prefer a harder shot, but one that is fair. I want it difficult to the point were you need to hit your mark and breakpoint consistantly to score and spares matter.

I like a hard shot sometimes I would not want to bowl on it all the time.  Last night the manager told his mechanic to double run the lanes well they ended up flooded nothing or on one was breaking.  One board right was a washout.  I even left a 5 pin in the pocket first time in years.  I missed a few spares until I figured out where to adjust to.  I did not bowl great low 500 but I beat a most people all they wanted to do was cry and talk about not coming back bla bla bla bla.  I said give me a time or two to figure it out and I would be okay but they did not want anything to do with it.

So to sum up your question most people want an easy shot I am probably around tenth in average on the league and everyone better than me was really complaining and did not even break 500 including about five 200+ bowlers.  The way I looked at it everyone had the same shot so do what you can and learn from it.  I made the statement that I would like to see a sport shot from time to time on league and you should have heard the crying.

i would rather have a tougher shot than my house shot. This is because my ths has no oil on it at all.

I bowl in two houses, one tougher than the other.when I bowl good in the easy house it leaves me feeling empty inside because I know the diffrence.when I bowl good in the tough house I feel proud.I will admit though that haveing 15 boards of area is fun as long as you don't let it go to you're head.
